    Hi
I have added this to farming and forestry section but thought I should try here for help too.
I am trying to sell my late father's tractor. However, I have just realised he has no vehicle registration cert for it. He bought it 2 years ago I don't think he really used it in that time.
I contacted dept. in shannon and they said he never taxed it that's why he has no cert. But how can I sell it now with this situation.
Insurance has run out since he died. Can I tax or insure something that is not in my name? Or is it possible to sell it without the cert?

If the tractor is not registered it cant be used on a public roads. There is a lot of old tractors that never got registered. Up to a couple of years ago it was no problem registering a tractor but things changed
    see the article below
    http://www.farmersjournal.ie/site/viewgalleryspecial.php?newsid=15

You can sell it no problem , it would be up to the new owner to get it registered.

You can insure it off an engine number or chassis number but you still cant use it on the road or tax it. As the article states the insurance companys have to tell the state about all vehicles that are insured off a engine number.

If Shannon are aware of its existance, as their reply to you would suggest, then it has been declared to revenue/VRT.
You should have a copy of the VRT declaration, if not, a replacement can be issued, give this to the new owner.
A VRC will only be issued when it's first taxed.
