Which android tablet?

Have been putting off getting a tablet lately but I just can't seem to get rid of the urge.

So I'd only go with an android one as I'm an S2 owner and love android.

The Samsung 10.1 has been a favourite of mine since it came out, and also liked the motorola zoom.

Which tablet would you recommend that's currently available, or which upcoming ones would be worth holding off for?

Do a search for the Acer Iconia A510 which will be out here shortly. They have received excellent reviews on all sites. I am waiting for one myself.

Imo, the iPad is the best if the tablets, not phones however

The Ipad is super if you want everything Apple. However I hate working with one hand tied behind my back.

iPad is great but only if you have it jailbroken. I have an iPad and I love it, but I am getting fed up of the limitations and I am considering an Android tablet when time comes to upgrade.

Hi, just wondering if anyone has bought from epad.ie? Am looking for a tablet for hubby and was considering a iPad when I came across their ad on another ads site. Anyone have any experience with these? thanks and sorry for hijacking thread, just didn't want to start another one that's almost the same :)

I have had a look at those devices...I suppose you get what you pay for.

You probablly should decide how much you love your hubby...an iPad (or similar high end Android tablet) or a Eur 149 Super3 Pad :)

I spent a lot of time last year in the states , and unlike here , there are plenty of places where you can get hands on experience of the various tablets in the stores.
Frys , Best buy , etc. all have usable models on display.

Heres the thing , I dont know about the newer tablets , that would be anything released after the end of January this year , but much as I hate to say it , and I really do hate to say it , all of the Android tablets suck when compared to the screen and picture quality of the ipad.

There wasnt a single one of them that came even close.
Given that tablets are primarily media consumption devices , screen/image quality has to be the number one concern , and the ipad has it sewn up there!

Ive said it , it nearly choked me , but unfortunately its true.

Forget about Epad. ie, very overpriced products.

    What is your budget?

Get an Asus Transformer Prime. It's a great piece of kit. Alternatively, wait for the Transformer Infinity. The Samsung tablets feel very slow in comparison.

If you are interested in viewing movies from various sources, forget the iPad. It is so locked into iTunes it's ridiculous.

Nonsense , there are plenty of apps that will play any content you want in any format you want. They will also access a nas , no issues whatsoever.

    Heres two

If your really thinking about getting with i would wait until the terga3 comes into play and then start looking at acer and even Toshiba seem to be doing pretty well in this sector with there tablets

Just got me an Asus Transformer TF300. Rubbish name, good tablet.

My only experience of other tablets has been display models in shops, but I've always found the other Android tablets to be quite laggy (except Sony's offering). I've played with the latest Samsung 10.1 and couldn't understand why it'd be so slow at doing simple things like swiping across the home screens,

Haven't found that at all with the Asus. Have only had it a few days but it seems nice and quick. I get about 8 hours out of the battery so you might want to go with a more expensive model if that's going to bother you. I've the keyboard dock with it as well which is great. I'm typing this post on it right now, and it's taking me exactly as long as it would on a laptop. Would recommend it if you're planning on using the tablet for writing any kind of text, be it email or posting on boards etc.

Not a huge amount of tablet optimized apps out there for Android unfortunately. But it does everything I want it to, can't see myself turning my laptop on again anytime soon. Got it for 500e with the keyboard, that's the 32gb version. Think it's 400 without. Has micro SD if you want to add more memory, the keyboard dock also has a regular SD slot and a USB port.

The TF300 was one of the ones I have on my list along with the Acer's A510 & A700. How do you find the screen ?

I'm finding the screen fine, but I don't really have anything to compare it to. I haven't been watching HD videos on it, but plenty of SD videos and they look grand. I've used the ipad2 for an hour or so but would need to have them side by side to make a real comparison. Never used the ipad3.

I was going to wait for the infinity to get the HD screen but I heard rumours about that costing 600e even without the keyboard dock, so I decided to give up and the 300FT was a nice price so I went for it.

Thanks for that. The new Acer A700 will be available in France for €449 & comes with a Resolution 1920 x 1200 px HD screen. Also the ACER has a very long battery life.
Do you find the keyboard ok as some have said that when the tablet is in its dock the whole lot will tilt back as the tablet is to heavy for the keyboard ?
As a matter of interest where did you get the TF300 ?

It can be a bit top heavy alright when you've the dock plugged in, nothing major though. If you have it sitting on a table it's nothing going to fall over or anything. I Got it in PC world.

Thanks for the good info on tablets chaps, Im heading to Singapore next week and was hoping to pick up a decent android tablet over there, and good Chinese products out at the moment? Would be spending under 300e really...

Not sure what the current price of the ASUS Tranformer 300T is (screen only) but that is the lowest spec I'd go for. Forget the Chinese stuff.

    I'ts available on amazon.fr

Suprised by the price tbh, looks like the tablet market is becoming more competitive atm.

well compared to netbooks i guess which are their closest compeditor, you dont have a keyboard.. then you need to fit everything into a smaller case, with a touchscreen. either way both things are along the same line,
main difference i guess is OS. where android is free.. saves you a few bob.
I wouldnt like to spend more than 400 on one at the minute. they really are only being improved and improved at the moment so what you get will be outdated soon. I really like the ones with inbuilt keyboards or docks but theyre so costly.. as a touchscreen device theres limitations to what you can do in terms of typing imo.. then again i said that about phones and i have no major issues.... you do tend to work off bookmarks a lot though :D

    good recommendations here anyway.
