I missed an exam yesterday and I was wondering if you don't show up do you just get a fail and have to repeat or is there an extra problem with it?

It could depend on the module, does the module require you to pass both the CA and the exam?
It might be best to talk to Brian the education officer in the Students Union to find out if no one here knows.

You were sick, go back to the doctor and get a cert ;) Then you can resit it in August and it wont affect your average as it will be your first sitting if its important for you and you wont have to pay the repeat fee

The module is 100% exam. Do you have to fill out a form or can you just wait for the results and get 0%

Were you sick? I missed exams before, you have 3 days to bring a doctors cert to your department general office, and you get a deferral for the repeat exams.

Should mention, even if you weren't technically sick, a few times my sick cert said "Stress/ Anxiety" and that's an acceptable illness!

    I like your thinking :P

I could probably get a doctor to go with that, that is actually pretty much the reason I didn't go in.

I guess my real question is, if I don't say anything to anyone and just leave it will I get a 0 and be allowed pay and repeat the exam in August? Because if so i have no problem with doing that.

I really don't know. Is the exam going towards your degree average? If so the 0 will be counted as your average and not your resit of it no matter what mark you get. But if you have a mitigating circumstance the resit will count as your first sitting of it, and it is that grade you will be given.

Maybe give your department a call in the morning?

If you haven't failed anything else I'd just go to the doctor, its cheaper than repeat fees and plus it would be counted as your first sitting! No doctor will have a problem signing a cert for you

Hi Aoifey, make sure you drop that cert in to the school office or your lecturer as soon as you can (if you haven't already!), I think the guidelines say within 5 working days of the missed exam - which is today - and fill in a mitigating circumstances form. It will come up as deferred on your results and August will be considered your first attempt rather than a repeat, as others have said!
