Ryanair and products

I'm flying with Ryanair in the next few weeks with only hand luggage. I've just read the restrictions with liquids (make-up, shampoo etc). So there is a 1 liter limit on liquids. How do they measure? I bought air travel bottles which are 100 mls and very small containers. Nothing it over 150mls. How much will I get away with taking? Most are only a 1/3 full!

its 100ml X10 items doesnt matter how full they are. obviously depends on who you get but last time i flew they were quiet strict about it.

So, can I have powers in my bag and not display them in the clear plastic bag? After all they are powers not liquids! Also are they strict if the plastic bag is a bit bigger than they specify?

It also means I can't buy anything when away!

You'll probably get better answers in Travel so I'll move it there.

It hasn't got anything to do with Ryanair. It's Airport security. If your pow(d)ers are measured in ml on the container, they're liquids and count. The X-Ray machine things will pick them up.

Dublin Airport won't care about the size of your plastic bag, but other airports might. I've had trouble in Bristol before.

Great. My powders are measured in oz so I won't display them in the plastic bag. Do I need medication in the bag?

In London or Spain I was given a smaller plastic bag. Is this common?

I always throw all my make-up (liquid and powder) in the plastic bag but last time security took out the powders and told me that they didn't need to be in there. Your liquids all need to be 100ml or less and the bag (1L only) has to seal comfortably.
As for your medication I've never put any pills or capsules in the plastic bag, but I've always brought a prescription with me just in case because a friend of mine almost had hers taken off her once! Maybe place them loose in the tray?

for airport security your liquids AND gels need to be in containers <=100ml or 3.4Oz (liquid Oz - so if your container is in Oz rather than ml, it does not mean it's exempt). They also say 3Oz in some places (the 3-1-1 rule according to US security), but I'm sure you can ask for them to measure in ml or Oz equivalent of 3.4.

The containers must fit in a 1l bag, i.e. the bag must be able to close, if it doesn't than you have more than 1l in overall bag volume and they can naturally take issue with that.
If your containers are half empty, that does not matter to them, so you're better off just getting a smaller container for your smaller volumes. If you buy liquids at the airport on your way out, on return you'll need check-in luggage if it exceeds the security-required volume limits. That's the unfortunate consequence. That's why many local airports now operate a pick-up on return policy.
