Anyone using a Carradice saddle bag? Was looking at the 9 liter one. Kind of Famous Five looking thing...
    Are they any good?

Can anyone suggest Carradice dealer in Ireland ? Or a similar type of bag different brand?

Never had one myself but am seriously considering a SQR Tour to do some B&B touring later in the summer. I know a couple of people on the forum have them.

They're meant to be excellent and last a lifetime, they're almost an institution in the UK Audax scene.

Try looking for some advice in this forum. There's pages and pages (literally) about them (maybe some people need to get out more :D).

I don't know if there's an irish retailer. You could look on their webpage. Otherwise Wiggle sell them.

Have you tried their website: http://www.carradice.co.uk/

Note the shipping charges details on the front page:

    SHIPPING CHARGES
    UK orders up to £16 = £2.00
    UK orders over £16 and below £60 = £3.95
UK orders £60 and over = FREE SHIPPING

    Overseas orders.
Shipping cost depends upon weight of
parcel and destination. We will contact you when the order
is ready and advise you of the shipping cost and final invoice
total. No payment is taken until you accept the final total and
you may cancel the order if this proves to be too high.
VAT is deducted for non EU orders.

I remember shipping being reasonably priced when I bought a large pannier direct from them.

Wiggle also supply them. I got mine from carradice, very nice service, they gave me a ring the next morning to tell me the post (I think it was 6 pound when I ordered the rack and maybe 10 when I got the bag).

    Great bags.

sorry buddy i lost track of the thread for a minute :o
i'm not sure if you can hook this bag to an ordinary saddle my brooks has strap fitting so as the bag can be strapped on no problem;)

So it might not just fit on a regular saddle.

Chap passed me on a Genesis with one in Cork-like city recently. I didn't look too hard to see if it had a rack or other accoutrements tied on to it.

    I was walking btw:)

you can get a quick release system that fits on the seatpost .
i dont have this i strap it to the brooks.
have to say if your planning some light touring and want to pack enough cloths wet gear food tools camera you wont get a better bag thats the truth..
on day rides i have the carradice rackbag just straped to rear rack another class bag.

hey studiorat, that was probably me... I have a Genesis and a 15lt. Nelson (not the longflap). I use the "SQR system" which is very handy. It sits on the seatpost and allows you to take on/off the bag in 2 secs. It's a bit smaller than the longflap, which I believe can take up to 18lt., but still big enough for my needs. In there I can fit jeans, shirt, jumper, underwear, socks and lunchbox. I leave shoes and towel in work. in the lateral pockets you still have space for spare tube, levers and other tools you might bring around with you.

I have about 25k commuting each way and it works for me... you'd be surprise how a dry back can improve your mood in the morning.

The downside of it is that aerodynamics are not great, but if that doesn't bother you too much it's a great buy.

PS: thanks to @feck sake lads for convincing me to buy it :D

    :)and everything else as well.
i must buy one of thos qrs for mine because when i have it strapped to my saddle it kinda droops over the rear rack not a big problem but yours looks better.
mind you i havent used it in over a year now i'm using the rackbag which is brilliant i can get all i need into it..
btw i'll be in your country at the end of may doing mizen to malin.
so if you see a little fat fella struggling on his loaded thorn tourer dont forget to say hello:D:D

@Fsl; do you have a bagman with your nelson or do you just hang it off the saddle and rest it on the rack?

I know I want a carradice (for what purpose I have still to figure out!) And am leaning towards the traditional models with a bagman but those sqr mounts look dead handy (and I hear they hold the bag a bit steadier than the bagman without any up/down movement)

i just attach it to saddle the bottom of the bag sits on the rack but does drool over each side of the rack no problems but would look better with the QRS. but the QRS is the way to go i think the nelson longflap is there biggest saddle bag great for weekend camping tours or whatever but you could always go smaller. have to say you wont be disappointed there really well made last forever
