Digital SLR Courses - Advice needed

    Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and looking for some advice on Digital SLR courses in Dublin. There is a deal on Pigsback or Groupon or one of those sites today for MKF Institute.

Can anyone recommend a course that is on nights or on Saturdays that gives a good introduction to DSLR but is not an absolute basic i.e. introduction to just the camera settings/buttons. i.e. I would like to learn more about what settings to use for different light conditions, what settings/how to set up a room for portraits etc.

Has anyone been on any courses in Dublin that they would recommend?

    Thanks in advance

Join a camera club, surprising how much you will learn from the other members regarding the topics you mention in your post.

If anyone has any courses they would recommend I still would like to explore that option too.

    Thanks

I would actually completely disagree with that. The experience I've had of camera club's is pure negativity - all members want to do is criticize each others work, no positive comments are forthcoming at all.

Interesting that you said that, I have considered joining a camera club but never got around to it...

I had been put off joining a camera club for a long time after reading a lot of bad things on boards about elitists etc...I also didn't have a lot of time but I joined the Greystones Camera Club a few months ago and I have to say I really look forward to going down each week. People keep in touch to organise little outings all the time and anyone can jump in which is great.

The people there are really positive, willing to share what they know in helpful non condescending manner or learn what they don't know (which is a nice experience thanks to all the other members) and altogether are a great bunch to spend an evening or a photo outing with.

I personally have learned a lot thanks to other members doing talks (Macro, Astro, Portrature among them) and I would certainly recommend joining one...or starting one if there isn't one already in your area.
