Seen this story about Cristiano Ronaldo,
"I have to thank my old friend Albert Fantrau for my succes. We played together for the same team in the U-18 championship. When Sporting Lisbon's manager came to see us he said that:"Who score's more goals will come in our academy".
"We won that match 3-0. I scored the first goal then Albert scored the second with a great header. But the third goal was impressive for all of us. Albert was 1 on 1 against the goalkeeper, he skilled the goalkeeper and i was running in front of him. All he has to do was to score but he passed to me and i scored the third goal , so i went to the Sporting Lisbon academy. After the match i met him and i said to him Why ? .. he said that "You are better than me" ..
"Many journalists went to Albert's house and asked him if it was a true story. He said yes. He also said that his career as a player after the match ended and now is unemployed. "But how did you build this house so great, you have a car? You seem like a rich man. You also keep your family .. From where did this come from? 'Albert more proudly replied: "It is from Cristiano! "

It really shows how unselfish someone is to a friend/team mate and also show Ronaldo in a new light to the cnut most make him out to be.

Extremely poor logic there from Sporting Lisbon, I once scored 8 goals in nods and volleys.... in a row...where's my medal?

Nice story if true. In truth we actually know fck all about these people. Lets take somebody like Bellamy, an utter pain in the hole on the pitch but the guy has a charity that helps out disadvantaged kids in Sierra Leone. Then you have Drogba who does a lot of good stuff for the Ivory Coast, getting involved at a political level to help his country.

I'm sure there are plenty of "good guy" footballers who are absolute tits but just have a good image.

Could have been just ingrained into him too; I know my experiences of team sports in this country is that you're always told to give it to the best player on the team at the earliest opportunity.

Never knew that, always hated him. Its nice to see footballers doing stuff like that. I knew about Drogba though, didn't he help stop a civil war?

Not a player, but when Roman Abramovich was the Governor of Chukotka he spent over €700m out of his own pocket on the place. He was unhappy at the way people were living and the schools the children had, so he ordered that a new house be built for all the residents, along with a new school and hospital/clinic. Everyone had electricity and central heating also.

Say what you want about his motives, tax breaks and whatnot. But long after he is gone those houses, schools and hospitals will still be there for the people!

I seen this on reddit a while back, no source could be found so unsprisingly it was deemed BS

I mean what a stupid premise for judging players. Yakubu has more goals than Suarez, im not sure if their is many people who would rate Yakabu higher than suarez, not even the yaks mammy I'd say. There is just no way its true

Is it true that Dirk Kuyt gives a % of his weekly wage to a charity?

The manager probably just said that as a throwaway comment. I mean even Albert Fantrau himself acknowledged that CR was the better player so I'm sure the manager probably saw it too. I doubt some 'promise' would sway such a decision if CR was the player the team wanted.

Even if the manager did say it as a throw away comment, then the merrit of the story is pointless as as you say, the manger would have taken CR either way, so it doesnt matter that Albert Fantrau layed the ball off for him. So either the entrie story is a crock of sh1t or the who the manger was taking part is sh1t, either way its sh1t! :)

I wonder if he sacked the Mayor of that town after 8 months because they didn't win the tidy towns after spending €700m on it?
