StanceWorks, your opinion?

Personally I love that site and most of the cars on it (I'm a huge BMW fan btw :)). I keep seeing people call cars "piles of ****e/scrap", because they're lowered. That kind of annoys me.

I've seen some e36/e46s that have been lowered on bilstein suspension, genuine bbs wheels, no stupid stickers, quiet exhaust and not a spot of rust on the car. Yet it's still "crap".

Ofc, some do go way overboard with the "moar low" and stupid camber but I really like the way people are free to do what they like to their car over on that site while on most sites you'd be eaten for not following the rules.

What's your opinion of the site and it's style of cars?

the pictures on that site are amazing, my favourite was one of an IS in dublin port.

It depends on the car really, there are some small hatchbacks sitting on 19s with a massive camber and streched tyres that look awful.
But then you also have the jap luxobarges done VIP style or track machines done nicely that look perfect.

at the end of the day its all about taste, and if you dont like a car being lowered then stanceworks is not the site for you

    Great for a show car.

I personally couldn't live with a car that low and hard my back gets soar just looking at it.

more my cup of tea. Remove the stickers and make sure there is enough suspension travel.

Not overly into the stance stuff but THIS!!
    My god, I can't decide which I want more, an S13 or a 180SX.

It'll be two years at least 'till I can buy one but I need to plan this now! :p

    I hate this stance/ridiculous camber/tyre stretch bull****.
I thought the whole point of modifying cars was to, you know, improve the handling, acceleration, drivability etc...

As long as I can see all of the rim from the side I'm happy enough with stance. I hate large stretch on tyres and and japanese-esque camber, ****in' 45 degree jobs.

A small bit of camber does improve handling, streching tyres improves sidewall strength. Lowered cars have a lower centre of gravity and better suspension for handling.

The whole point of modifying cars is to stand out from the crowd and put your own stamp on your car, how you choose to do it makes no difference IMO.

I like the stance movement as it doesn't need massive money to gain the look. Suspension and wheels are all that's needed so its a style that anyone can achieve.

That's the fiirst I've heard that stretching tyres increases strength, it would definitely increase stiffness, which is not nearly the same thing. From what I can find on the net it's generally considered dangerous.

The view that lowering a car always improves handling is an incredibly simplistic one, ignoring the complexities of suspension dynamics, have a look at this discussion on the subject by car engineers (consensus is that anything more that 25mm drop disimproves handling)
