    Lads,
    Am driving the ring this weekend for first time. Love archaeological sites, Monastic remains, etc.
    Give me the 3 or 4 (no more than that) essential places or things to stop at please. Staigue Stone Fort seems to be one.

    yeah, Staigue Fort and Skelligs if history is your thing.
    Daniel O'Connells homeplace in Derrynane maybe (nice beach if the weather is good)

    There are some fossil footprints out on Valentia island (or Valencia as google maps call it), if you're interested in that. Sounds like you might enjoy the skellig experience too? that's also on Valentia.

    Leacanabuaile and Cahergal stone forts are about 2 miles outside Caherciveen, take a look, you wont be disappointed. Lecanabuaile stone fort is ment to be one of the best examples of the interior of a round stone fort in Ireland.
