written offer - delayed contract

    hi,

    I am currently working for an educational institution in Dublin and have received a written offer last week for another job with the same employer, just in another unit. They want me to start asap.

    However, there are some delays with my contract. I understand that there are no problems with me or my contract it's more to do with HR being very busy and not being able to do it just now.

    I am running out of time for handing in my official notice (already will be under a month) so just wondering whether it is safe to do so now or I should wait until I have my contract in hands. It might mean that I would need to change the start date of my new job. I know I am extremely lucky to have this job but at the same time don't want to fall between two stools!

    If it's with the same employer, then shouldn't the relevant managers be communicating internally over when you can transfer to the new position?

    I would not expect to be handing in written notice in that situation.

    Thanks - I have to communicate with HR who in turn are communicating with the other dpt... it's a massive organisation! also have to resign from my current post in order to take up the other one.. I should have my draft contract today so hopefully that would put my mind at ease.. I am quite a "special" case so don't really want to **** off anybody at any stage.

    If you're working for a large third level institution then you know how slowly the wheels can grind and how awkward things can be if someone is resisting it. Unfortunately, you'll probably just need to wait it out and allow those above your pay grade to sort out the issue. Ar HR insisting on a break in employment to get you to sacrifice your redundancy rights or is it just a case of working out notice in one position the moving to the other with no break?

    I certainly hope it's not the case! at least it really doesn't seem like it. Anyhow, I am moving from a temp job to another temp job (longish this time), so redundancy etc would probably not even apply to me (not at this stage anyhow).
    The new dpt would want me to start asap, so I would have had just enough time to hand in the notice + a few days for HR to sign the contract. But due to the delay, if I hand in my notice today, I am already late, but my manager agreed to these few days delay. But cannot really push them around forever. Talked to HR, they think that the written offer should be enough for me to resign, but I am a bit too nervous to do that without the actual contract.
