    Hi,

I need to put Oil into my 1.4 Astra 2010 model. I've checked online and on the Castrol website it recommends I use 5w-40 fully synthetic but when I went into Deevys the guy behind the counter checked a book and recommended I use 0w-30 and gave me that instead.

I've been looking online and can't find a recommendation for that type of oil for my model of Astra anywhere.

Would anyone have any insight into this?

    Thanks

If you are only topping up with a litre or thereabouts it's not going to really matter all too much between the two of those which you use. Ideally the oil should match with what is already in there which is most likely to be either 5w-30 or 5w-40. Personally I would go with either 5w-30 or 5w-40.

Is your car a petrol or diesel model? If you have your receipt from last time it was serviced they usually write on it the oil type used. It should also be in your manual for the car which to use.

Which model Astra is it? H or J?

Either way, you can use either of the viscosities mentioned above, its more important that the oil is the correct specification for your car, which is fully synthetic Dexos and/or GM-LL-A-025.
