Is it possible to copy stuff thats been recorded and stored in the planner onto a memory stick via USB at the back of the sky box? It says copy on screen but have always thought it just duplicates on screen.

Don't want to go down the road of ext hard drive as this is a once off for my mum.

Presuming I can get the show from the USB onto a DVD for her of course.....

Not possible, however, if you have a dvd recorder you can plug that into the Skybox and record stuff with it.

It isn't used for anything, however many satellite receivers have them for updating the firmware etc. so it is just standard practice for one to be included.

Sky had a gadget called a Sky gnome a few years back I'm not sure if it utilised the USB functionality. It was basically a radio if I remember right.

Had one of those Gnomes and it used one of the RF Outs.

Sky Italia used the USB socket. But you'll be jealous if I tell you for what!

Technically Sky could enable it for USB recording, Bluetooth or WiFi dongle and many other things. In practice it's very unlikely.

So there's no way of getting anything from the planner onto external devices?

They enabled you to connect a DVB-T USB stick and watch the Terrestrial channels through your Sky box.

No,unless you like taking your skybox apart plus anything encrypted eg.Sky Atlantic can't be copied onto an external drive & watched without a Sky sub.
