Talking Dictionary for kids

    Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience of using a talking dictionary for kids?

My 9 year old son struggles a little with reading so we have been trying out a ‘reading pen’ to help him along. This tool (which they say is for age 9 and upwards) scans a word, reads it out loud, provides an on screen definition and stores it for review which is great for building up vocabulary.

However, even though the first 2 steps are manageable for a child -albeit a bit temperamental to scan and sometimes it's difficult to make out what the digital voice is actually saying - the tool often uses quite complicated words to define the highlighted word which in our case defeats the purpose.

So if anyone has any experience of using a simpler child friendly version I would love to hear about it.

    J.
