SGS2 - tethering issue

    Hi all

I regularly use my phone to tether to my laptop and when I have it shows the connection as "Android AP2" or something like that. Also when connected if I check my data allowance on the Three website it used to show as unlimited (as I am on an unlimited data package)

However yesterday I downloaded an app 1-click tether (an easy way to switch on and off the connection on my phone I thought). When I did this it now changed the name of my phone connection when tethering to "DIY Phone Gadgets". Also when I check my allowance it is not showing up my unlimited allowance stats but my regular Three internet allowance stats (My regular connection is National Broadband Scheme with Three so I have a 25g cap). I tried uninstalling the 1click app but there is no change.

Any idea how I get my phone tethering connection back to the way it was?

    Cheers

Settings > wireless and networks > mobile networks > access point names.

Check what's in there and which one is selected

For the wifi ap name, it's wireless and networks, portable hotspot, configure hotspot. From there you can set the name & password etc.

But the data charges will be to do with the mobile apn. Make sure you are using the right one for tethering

It's 3Ireland - but both my phone and my regular internet connection are with 3

Yeah I went into configure hotspot and the name is now DIY Phone Gadgets whereas before it used to be Android AP I think. Dont know why it changed that.

For the data - as per above it's all with Three. Previously if I connected with my regular modem it would be using data from my 25gb allowance with Three whereas if I connected with my phone (Android AP) it would be using my unlimited data allowance.

I have just done a test there any disconnected my regular modem. Checked my allowance before and after downloading something with my phone DIY Phone Gadgets connected and it remained the same. I will try this again to confirm. What this would mean is that my phone is in fact using the unlimited allowance (which is what I want) but that the Three page where I check my allowance is just not changing to reflect the different connect.

I think it might be okay but a bit annoying that downloading that app changed things

Hmm, i would say it's just coincidence then. The app probably changed the name as a bit of advertising. Sneaky imo.

I didn't realise you had a separate modem, i would say the tethered device just didn't connrct to the phone properly.

I have just used my S2 for tethering for the first time. I on O2 prepay with the 700mb add on. I was not charged extra for it. Is this right? It just took data from my add on.
