You're getting a DNA test to prove paternity?
What do you mean by being skeptical?
Are you saying that you do not believe the test works?
It does. You can trust the test to be accurate.
DNA is used for legal reasons all the time and is accepted in a court of law.

I got my DNA traced by a company in the US.
All that is required is that you spit into a tube and send it off.
Every child carries the marker of their parent.
For instance, my DNA has been traced back to about 11,500 years ago in Jordon.
Because I'm female, I am traced through all my female ancestors back to that one woman in Jordon due to one genetic marker - H5a1.
    Dead interesting.

Just be aware that if you need a DNA test for court purposes, a home one is not admissible.

So while the home one might give you an answer.. if you need to go to court, the court will order one, and the one disputing paternity and asking for the test is the one who pays for it.

Also if you are not the legal guardian of the child then you can't legally get the child tested only the guardian of the child can agree to it and the test would be not admissible in court.

May not be legal but without permission but its a sexist law against fathers so I wouldn't care.

Just be very careful doing the test. eg you wouldn't want someone elses dna getting mixed up with your sample.

home dna kits wont stand up in a court.... as they can be easily tampered with.

if she is trying to pin a kid on you and your not sure its yours go to a doctor and get the proper test done.

I used one from Easydna.ie and I found them great. Very discreet and quick and they email you all the results. Again these sort of tests are not valid in court.

    Hiya
well I'm actually the mother:p I did do a maternity test too but it doesnt have to be done on the mother. I found it really interesting when you get the results back to see every thing matching up. I got it done cos my son's father was denying he was his. Results came back positive as I knew they would but he still doesnt want anything to do with him:mad::( but that's another day's work!

Wow, this is a really cold way to speak about a child, children need love no matter who they belong too. So, if you are together and you have children, perhaps the thing to be focusing on, is raising them to be balanced and happy adults, so they do make the same f5ck ups as the adults in their lives.

So you find out the child is not yours what then? It sounds like you live with her but don't trust her, just remember the kids did not ask to be born, but now they are here deserve the best that life has to offer.

I know a person who was unsure if his child was his. He purchased one of these tests and swabbed both him and the child and sent it to be analysed. He did not inform the childs mother of this as he was afraid of opening a can of worms if he raised the issue with the childs mother.

The results came back that the child was not his. He then went to the childs mother and asked for a DNA test. She was furious and tried in every way to get out of attending the doctors appointment. This test also came back negative.

She then claimed that the second test was inaccurate as she had in no way slept with anyone else. She was of the belief that a saliva test was not accurate.

He then requested a blood test to be carried out which she also tried to avoid. Results also came back that the child was not his.

I would say to anyone who is in doubt to definately get a DNA test. These home tests are accurate however they are not legally recognised.

I've never used one of these tests, but from a genetics point of view you don't need a sample from the mother to test whether or not the child is yours. A child receives one of each pair of chromosomes from you, so the sample will either match or not match. Even if both parents needed to be identified (confirming the identity of a missing child, for example) the samples would be run separately.
