Don't post here often so hope this is the right place for this.

Looking to get my first car over the summer any suggestions ?

I've only really been looking on line at things like colt's,civic's, punto's and other cars similar to these as they seem to be not very pricey. Are these good cars to be starting off with or would the likes of a civic or a colt be to much hassle with the possibility of having a bit of a boy racer type reputation and getting pulled over often.

I'm 22 and a guy if that makes any difference.

    Thanks in advance

Colts and Civics do have a bit of a reputation which may carry over into the insurance. The Japanese and Germans generally make good cars. So look at Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, Opel, VW. Also consider the value for money of Kia and Hyundai.

For a first car I would suggest the cars that ADI has mentioned, if you are still a learner driver I'd go with either a Toyota Yaris, Nissan Micra, Opel Corsa and maybe Kia, Mazda, a Peugeot or a clio maybe. A golf, polo or ford might suit you. Depends how much you willing to pay for a car, are you a learner/full licence holder and depends on insurance.

There are certain cars that draw attention more so than others. Be careful what colour you get too certain cars are likely to either get pulled over or stolen but you'd like a good handy car all the same that takes you from A to B. How economical it be to run it keep it maintained and so on. I suppose if you looking for a car with more engine power go with something like a peugeot, kia, mazda or an opel. Cost of petrol has gone up so much these days.

What's your budget and where are you?

A 00-02 micra or yaris is your man.

You'll get one cheap enough, insurance wont be too bad, tax is feck all aswel.

As for running wise, these cars will go forever with the right servicing.

After a year or 2 when you're comfortable on the road, then get yourself a civic or a golf. But you should probably wait til you get a full licence first!
