Anyone have an idea of how long the average timber train is/was
What pulled them over the years, a mix of everything or were they always pulls by a few classes only?

Current timber trains are hauled by 071s 90 percent of the time and 201s.They run from Ballina and Westport. The current set up is just 1 train from BNA and WPT per week. However useually it is one Laden timber from Ballina on a Thursday, one from Westport on a Friday and one from Westport on the following Tuesday. These trains are 12 wagons long( 10 the very odd time). In the past double's use to haul them as pointed out,i often seen 141s/181s hauling them although a great struggle some of the time. Years ago in Sligo when shunting, the wagons were hauled up the Quay 6 wagons at a time,as wheel slip was a major problem.

See them in Waterford nearly every day, pulled by 071 most of the time but I have seen a few 201's doing it in the past months for whatever reason.
