I have a over €12K to invest as I get bascially NADA off the banks.!

Upon reading this thread on the Prize bonds it doesnt seem like a viable option.

    Hi Shane,
Depends on how long you want to put your €12k away for, what type of risk you are prepared to take e.t.c.

Low risk, Short to medium term you might like the state bonds

or maybe KBC bank deposit rates

Investment markets are a bit bumpy of late, & with possibility of Greece exiting the Euro being discussed, they look set to fall a little further.

I do a lot of investing & am currently holding out on getting into bed with risk investments for the moment (although I do like mid-to-high grade north american corporate bonds).

However, I am also looking at market values falling, and waiting for the right time to "buy in," & hope to make a bit of a killing. However, you need to be set up to move fast in order to do this.

With a sum like €12k, if you have no desire/need to access it in the medium to long term then you might consider leaving it in a deposit account, but at the same time drip feeding it into an AVC/pension, say €1k per month over a year or so. (however, this is based on an assumption that you don't need access to your €12k, you need to boost your retirement income, and that you are eligible for tax relief on additional pension contributions).

Basically, take a hit of €590 (higher rate tax payer) on your take home pay from work, pay €1,000 from your salary to an AVC/pension & supplement your income with the €12k which you have on deposit.

If you're a higher rate tax payer then you add 41% to the value of your €12k(i.e.€16,920) via tax relief, but this has to stay in your retirement funds.

    Hope this helps.
