Hi fan not working for a couple of days. Makes a tiny buzz for 3 secs when moved from 0 to 1. Happened before over 12 months ago but righted itself after a couple of hours. Any ideas ? Thanks

Resistor pack failure is common. Should be easy for a decent garage to diagnose.

Got this link from the bmw forum, http://www.bmw-driver.net/forum/

You can get the part cheaply on ebay.

The part is €100 or so from BMW. You can get them cheaper from motor factor, scrapyard, online etc.

Fitting it is easy. You could DIY if you are into that kind of thing or if not then it shouldn't cost much to get a garage to do it for you.

The fact that that your fan is making a buzzing noise means it may not be the resistor in your case so it may be worth getting a professional opinion before buying any parts.

Could be the hedgehog type resistor, a BMW achilles heel.

Hmmm it's working again today. I hate intermittent problems.

Have seen this a few times on them where the fan would work intermittently and it was just a bad connection on the plug on the resistor rather than the resistor itself.
