Is it just ring them or is there any way to get it in quick? I.e. customer care, as a dealer. Etc etc

I always thought it was a general NCT number that I rang before, did she ask for anywhere in the country before Friday?

Don't know. It's the ma in law we're talking about. I try to avoid conversation as much as possible :D

I just looked on the website, there are plenty of retest slots in Greenhills, Ballymun and Fonthill on Friday 11th.

Either book online at www.ncts.ie or call them on 1890 412 413. There is a central booking office, it is not possible to call individual centres directly.

You could try going into the center where it failed, and explain your story and they might be able to fit you in .

I have another window open this minute and there are no tests.

    Where are you getting tests?

I am working in town and in the current environment it is difficult to get time off work for things such as dentist funeral NCT etc. I have always used these guys. I do not have anything to do with the company http://www.nct4u.com I usually ring them tell them my NCT is due they collect the car arrange with the test centre date and time (normally within 24 hours) and drop it back to you a couple of hours later. (pass or fail)They charge 50euro for their service.

    Just an option

The OP's mother in law doesn't have an issue getting to the test centre, her problem is getting a retest appointment before Friday.

Sorry I maybe should have been clearer. If I ring these guys tomorrow they will typically get an appoinyment within 24 hours. As far I can remember they work out near Deansgrange and obviously are well known to the NCTcentre out there.

    Just my tuppence worth

Mmm, I would be a little suspicious of how these guys who charge to bring your car to the NCT centre can get appointments so quickly and average joe may not.

I have no connection with them either, only heard about the service on this thread but maybe they just sit around the Deansgrange centre all day and take any slot that comes up - just guessing mind!

Wouldn't be surprised if they slip the lads an odd bottle or two but I'm sure the cars pass or fail on their own merits as there seems to be no suggestion that your chances are better using them, just that they'll get you in faster.

The guy who normally collects my car is a mechanic. I believe they work out of a garage near deansgrange so they are able to get a test quickly. However it's not going to guarantee a pass or a fail. I must say the only reason I am suggesting this place is I have used them 3 times and have got an appointment very quickly. Their charge is to pick up the car and return it. I have no reason to lie guys just passing on my positive experience.

    UPDATE !

Just rang the nct phone line and explained we needed a retest and the girl pointed out there was only two days left.

I mentioned it had been retested once if not twice already and then I took it to MY mechanic - Browne Motors in Robinhood. Dean found it needed a brake equalising valve. Hence the problems fixing it. Hang on she says.

After a few minutes, she came back and said as it was a retest of a retest, they would extend the time a few days and do it Tuesday evening.

Well fair plays. Credit where credit is due

Thanks very much. This should get me kudos with the ma-in-law !
