iv been using 2 different speed tests for my broadband, one is speedtest.magnet.ie and im getting a DL of 18, ping 40 and upload 2 gig and when i use speedtest.net i get Dl of 16, ping 135 and upload of 1.8

there is a huge difference here, is there anyway of checking which is more accurate?

Download a linux iso from ftp://ftp.heanet.ie and see what the avgerage speed is, failing that magnet, speedtest, irishisptest etc.

Speedtest.net is the worst, i think some of the hosts for it must be crap, for example if i select a speedtest location of limerick i will get slower speeds then dublin (im in cork).

I use Magnet's one as it seems most accurate. Then I also can see my line being used to the max with downloads like heanet etc...

Just use the digiweb dublin server from speedtest.net, They're the only accurate irish test host on that site.

Ya i think thats the one i use but its a bit pointless having all these hosts that arent up to scratch then false readings going out to people.

Ya, they should really have a stricter screening process

And like any server, speedtest servers can get overloaded and as such won't perform optimally,

Exactly, the best server is the quiet one ;)
It's a much better guide to start a download from a fast mirror, like Heanet.ie
