    Hi

I was wondering does anyone know is there any other place to get sample entries for the Diary other than the few on the chartered website?I have no idea what to write.
Also wondering does anyone know roughly when would you change from understanding to apply etc, as I am in a small firm we dont get much help with our diary.

Any help would be appreciated smile.gif

You need to show progression as your training progresses.
In year one, you will be just understanding tax, audit etc, but by the end of your training you will be applying the knowledge learned.

You need to write a short descriptive of what you did, and what you were exposed to and how you dealt with things, in each diary entry. A very short entry will be rejected (believe me!!)

This type of entry will be rejected:
Feb 2012- audit of small manufacturing company. Debtors ledger, circularisation.

A good entry will be something like:
In Feb 2012, I attended the audit of ABC Ltd (a small manufacturer of widgets, with 7 employees, and a turnover of €99Billion) as an audit junior. I assisted in X Y Z and inputted figures into spreadsheets. I reviewed the debtors ledger and selected a sample for circularisation, and prepared and sent out letters. ETC, ETC

In later years this would read like:
In Feb 2014, I attended the audit of ABC Ltd (a small manufacturer of widgets, with 9 employees, and a turnover of €999 Billion) as audit senior. I manged a staff of two and instructed them on the review of the debtors ledger and sample for circularisation, ETC, ETC
You then select the skills/competencies you used/learned etc.

    hope this helps

    Thanks for your reply.

Just wodering as I work in a small company we wouldnt do to many audit work or have really seniors etc.
I would generally be doing small accounts VAT returns etc
I just dont want to repeat myself in the diary.
Also do you have to fill in goals etc or does it matter if you dont?
And how do you know if entries are rejected?

I too trained in a small firm & when I started wit my entries I didn't hav a notion!

Take ur vat returns for example, once you hav completed these once or twice u 'understand', the next few times you can 'apply' ur understanding & very quickly when u no longer need supervision u can 'integrate' as u know exactly what u are doin!

Only u can know when u are ready to move on to the next level, u don't spend one yr of ur contract 'understanding', etc.

A lady from the institute came visit my firm when I was training n went over my diary n she said it depends on the individual circumstances, some people hav been workin as bookkeepers for yrs prior to their training contract so they may not hav many entries at the understand level.

As for goals/achievements I didn't fill this in at all until I was about to submit my diary for membership, I took one day out n filled that up but dunno if u hav to!

Good luck neway n if u need help just ask!

Thats very much I really appreciate all your help.
I have had nobody to visit me & the rest of Trainee's that work with me are ACCA.

I also believe past employee's diaries were not reviewd just locked which doesnt give me much on if my entries are ok or not.

So I may be contacting you for help :)

Admissions fees for the ICAI you mean? PwC pay the fees, excluding the initial administration fee in the first year of joining. I presume most of the others are the same.
