Really want this job

I have an important telephone interview coming up later this week for a job I really, really want. I am not worried about the interview itself, I've done loads of interviews before and I have experience of everything in the job spec but I am worried about the effect it will have on me if I don't get it.
I am actually in employment at the moment but I am very poorly paid. I am not struggling to pay bills or anything, but I am just living from day-to-day (like a lot of people; I know).
It's not so much the money I am worried about as a consequence of not getting the job (I don't even know how much is on offer), it's more the effect it will have on my self-esteem.
I don't want to be a failure (again). I've narrowly missed out on jobs before and I don't know if I can take it if it happens again.
I get really depressed and down when I don't get a job I think I should (I am on meds for depression). I feel terrible complaining about this when so many unfortunate people are out there without work but when you take away my monthly expenses I would be getting the same on the dole as I am in this job.
I have a few other applications pending but this is my best shot I feel, I hope I don't blow it.

This one sentence speaks volumes about your attitude Owen.
    I don't consider myself a failure if I don't get a job, or whatever.
It wasn't for me. I wasn't for them.
That doesn't make me a failure, that just means they decided to go with someone else for whatever reason.

Loose the attitude and quit putting such pressure on yourself.
I don't believe in fate or that 'what's meant for you won't pass you by' crap. However, you will find life difficult and depressing if you set yourself up with such high expectations and then you fall.

If you have given it your best shot then that's all that matters.
After that, it will either happen or it won't and you have no control over that.

The worst thing you can do in an interview is come across as desperate. Try to tone down the anxiety and relax a little.
The worst that can happen is you don't get the job but still end up in the enviable position of being employed. Having a job and routine is critical when you have depression.
Best of luck with the phone interview.

Not getting a job you're qualified for after an interview is no reflection on you as an individual. It could be that the girl in the interview before you had 2 years more experience than you, that the guy after you had a nice smile that the interviewer wanted to see more of or even that they think you're destined for better things and would rather fill the position with someone who'll still be in for a good few years rather than being promoted up the line.

All you can do is portray yourself in the best light you can, point to your relevant experience and what you can bring to the role and let them make their decision. It does no harm to remember that you're interviewing them too: when given an opportunity to ask questions at the end, take it and find out more about the role you're applying for and the company itself.

    Good luck!

I do get stressed at times but in an interview situation I can talk OK about my experience etc. I get stressed when I start thinking about the interview, "what if I don't get it" etc.
