Timing Belt on 00 Polo

Getting the auld polo ready for the NCT soon and was wondering about getting the timing belt done. I got the car at around 63k, I can't remember if your man said it had been done or not but I am assuming it is since I've had it 2 and a half years and put up 30k on it and it hasn't snapped yet, should I be looking at getting it done?, what is the interval?

Also what is the service interval on these yokes, I've always gotten it done every 6k but was told recently that it was 10k?

Finally since I've had it when change to reverse I get some gear crunching, it's never had any issues with the gear box etc. Anything to be worried about? The pedal box gave me awful bother there for a while but that was it.

What engine has the polo got? This dictates all intervals more then the year of the car.

    Apologies, it's the 1L.

The timing belt change interval is every 4 years, regardless of mileage and the service interval is every 10,000 miles or 1 year.

The grinding could be a gearbox issue but the pedal boxes on those are notorious for breaking.
