Hi. I'm just wondering what the Wild Geese martial arts club is like? I'm looking to start judo. But I'm a little nervous about it, and I'm kinda shy as well. I'm dying to give it a go, but I just can't take the first step. Probably sounds ridiculous, but you know how it goes...

Paul Cox and Dave Hedges are good guys and teachers. Lots to offer. Can't go too far wrong there. :)

Don't worry about being shy - remember - everyone has a first day or first training session in a new club. The guys there are nice.

Your teacher's will be Donal Tannam and newly promoted first dan Raphael Rapetti-Mauss.

Honestly you won't find two nicer instructors anywhere, and as much as they're complete gentlemen in real life ~ fierce fighters in competition.

    Donal teaches absolutely beautiful Judo.

Btw, you're only ever a stranger for the minute you step through the door of any martial arts club so don't sweat the small stuff.

I do Judo under Donal in both Trinity and Wild Geese and a finer gentleman you couldn't meet. He's incredibly pleasant on and off the mat, very patient with beginners, very funny, always makes sure you have a good time, and as Makikomi says, he teaches beautiful Judo. I met Raphael once, and he was an absolute gent, too.

I'll be bringing a newbie friend of mine with me this week, so you won't be the only beginner. Donal would be delighted to have you. Come and introduce yourself! Feel free to send me a PM if you want more info.

Thanks guys. It sounds great. That's taken the edge of it. I'm gonna give it a go! Wish me luck. :)

They train mostly GI unless there is a submission tournament on the horizon.
