Getting your Dole in Another Country

    So I found out recently that you can get your dole in any country in the EU for up to three months, so I've decided to move to Amsterdam for a month or so before I go back to college in September after working for the last few years. Has anybody ever actually done this, and if so, were there any issues with getting the transfer. I'm afraid that it could take a couple of weeks to switch from here to the Dam.

    Any info is appreciated.

    Somewhere in The Netherlands right now, someone on Boards.nl is going spare about welfare tourists.

    Just to clarify, I would be receiving my own Jobseekers Benefit while over there, and would not be taking any monies from the good folk of the Netherlands.

    AH -> State Benefits.

    Did you see this?
    If you are drawing unemployment benefit in one Member State, you may, continue to draw benefit from that same country for up to three months after you move to another member
    http://ec.europa.eu/ireland/press_office/news_of_the_day/pdf_files/ec-cib-leaflets/moving.pdf
    Unemployed people who go looking for a job in another EU country can arrange with their local social security office to continue receiving unemployment benefits for a minimum of three months, extendable to six months. In 2009, close to one European in five (17 %) envisaged working abroad according to a special Eurobarometer (337) on geographical labour market mobility.

    Really? Would work for someone living in Ireland but not wanting to collect from a certain dole office every week?
    If one were, hypothetically, cruising Ireland's waterways and didn't want to come back to Galway of a Tuesday, say?
    Or does it have to be one particular dole office?

    You need to go into your local office with your plane ticket and info of where you're staying and you should be fine.

    So you want to go and smoke weed and visit the red light on the dole over there for a bit. good plan. ;) as stated above accomodation might eat into that.

    Anybody know if this only applies to benefit or does it cover job seeker allowance? wouldnt mind going to spain for the summer and try look for work.;) though i hear there economy is probably worse. Id say if you go to an eu country without the national language the only places you can work is in an irish pub or some muck job that doesnt even cover costs.

    These arrangements only apply to Jobseekers Benefit, not to Jobseekers Allowance.

    As taken from welfare.ie

    If you have been getting Jobseeker's Benefit in Ireland for at least 4 weeks and wish to go to a country covered by EC Regulations to look for work, you can receive this payment abroad for up to 78 days. To obtain this you must inform the office where you 'sign-on' at least 4 weeks before you leave so that the necessary arrangements may be made in time.

    In the other country you must 'sign-on' within 7 days of the date you last signed on in your local Social Welfare Office.
