Just after buying a JD 1365 mower to mow in front of the contractor who does baling for us. Just wondering has anyone used the mower for topping, and put topping skids on it?

We'll trow off the belt for conditoner less wear and tear and less power needed;)

i remember when the belt broke on a tarrup mower and u could not mow without the conditioner, think u might be better buy an ordinery 8 ft disc mower for topping

No i'm pretty sure you the bed is independent of the conditioner. I'm only going throwing off the belt for topping with it. Conditioner and spreading plate will be in for knocking the grass for bales.

Tried a mounted lely last year, didnt like the way it followed the ground, and weight hanging off one side and all that messing with the top link.:pac:

I think what the other chap meant was the mower would choke..
I was mowing with a kuhn 10ft conditioner , the pulley driving the conditioner broke and all that happened was the mower choked. I'm sure the 1365 would do the same.

There should be some adjustment on the skids on the end. 3 different holes.heights for the skids. The highest might be high enough for topping

shorten the top links on the mower will do the trick

Have a 1365 myself and if my father seen me topping with it,he'd take a fit. Always said its bad for them and heats the bed up or something.most likely talking rubbish as usual.but have a good handy topper for paddocks etc now and keep the mower perfect for silage.

Bale and wrap paddocks before grass gets out of control---no need to top
