Juventus Invincibles ?

Juventus have just won Serie A for the 28th time and are still unbeaten in the League. With one game to go, at home to Atalanta, chances are they will become only the third team in Serie A to go through the entire season unbeaten after Perugia and Milan previously. Good to see the Old Lady back.

It's been a seriously long time since I've watched one of their games. What way do they line up these days?

It's impressive but not as remarkable as it should be. They've drawn a ridiculous amount of games from what I've heard, something like 15 (?), which is why they only wrapped up the title last weekend.

They arent a EPL team so no one around here (vast generalization) will give a toss.

I dont give a toss cause I am an Inter fan and it pains it for me to help them to the title (derby match result) but its nice to note that they havent won a league since 2003!

It's a good record, but the other two times, the teams didn't even win the league. Well certainly Perugia. I could be wrong on Milan though.

For me though, the best record is always having the greater number of points than anyone else in the one season rather than being undefeated. Obviously, being undefeated leads to titles, but not always. That record also suggests a lot of draws.

Taking nothing away from Juve though!! But i'm sure that Juve fans here and in Italy are just happy being the Champions!!

Ah going a whole season undefeated is still a pretty big achievement regardless, the ultimate in consistency.

Ah i'm not saying it is! I'm really not taking anything from Juve if they avoid defeat next week or say the Arsenal side from 2003 or whatever year it was. It's an amazing achievement!! But it only really counts if it bags you a league title which is what it did for Arsenal and for Juve next week if they don't get beaten.

In any three league games, id rather win two and lose one compared to drawing the three. But it is a great achievement, no doubt!

You could draw every game and get relegated. Not so invincible then:)

The title is already decided, Juve are 4 points clear with a game to go.

Haven't caught much of Serie A at all lately but from what I've seen a lot of games have been 3-2, 4-3 etc.

Juventus clinched the title yesterday, and thus ended Zlatan Ibrahimovic's incredible streak of 8 consecutive league titles for 5 different teams in 3 different countries.

    Nonsense. Some of the best games i've seen in recent times have been in Serie A;

    AC Milan 4-4 Udinese
    Napoli 4-3 Lazio
    Inter Milan 4-4 Palermo
    Juventus 2-1 AC Milan
    Fiorentina 5-2 Udinese
    Genoa 2-4 Udinese
    Napoli 3-3 Juve
    Napoli 6-3 Calgari
    Lazio 3-1 Napoli
    Roma 5-3 Novara

To name but a few awesome matches i've seen in the last 2 seasons! It's nothing like the dull, negative football you saw in the 90s.

I like Serie A, don't watch nearly enough of it to have a valid opinion of it though. Thought the Milan derby the weekend was a right laugh, 2 joke penalty decisions amongst other baffling refereeing errors. I'd definitely watch more of it had I the time.

    Generally along these lines. 3-5-2.
    Buffon
    Barzagli - Bonucci - Chiellini
    Lichtsteiner/Caceres - Vidal - Pirlo - Marchisio - De Ceglie/Pepe/Giaccherini
    Quagliarella/Matri - Vucinic

Gee that's a good decline tbh on their championship "winning" team in 2006. Will many of these be lining up against us in a months time?

I dunno, the CM, Buffon and Barzagli/Chiellini are all damn good.

Buffon, Barzagli, Chiellini, Pirlo, Marchisio are probably shoe-ins for the Italy First XI.

Quagliarella, Matri and Pepe could all be involved in the squad, and Bonucci surely will be.

This whole 'Serie A is boring' line really gets on my goat.

Most people who say it haven't seen a Serie A game since it was on Channel 4 about 15yrs ago. Some haven't seen a game ever, but just repeat what some random pundit said once.

For the record, over the last decade I seen quite a few of the big ties in Serie A live. Games such as the Milan derby, Inter v Juve, Rome derby, Juve v Fiorentina, Juve v Milan etc, and they tended to be very fast, very skillful and often action packed.

The line is often trotted out by the brainwashed $ky TV subscribers of 'the best league in the world', who think that every EPL game is a classic. Some of the most boring football I have seen in recent years has been in the EPL, and often involving so-called massive ties between the top teams.

I just wish people would give Serie A a chance, they would probably enjoy it.

What other league would you see a manager punch a player after subbing him or fans stop a game to demand the players give their shirts back because they are not worthy of them. And thats just the last couple of weeks :pac:

It's a great team. I have a terrible soft spot for Chiellini, he's just a joy to watch!

Juve will get the attention they deserve come next seasons champions league.

Pirlo hasn't lost a league match since 2010. Amazing record. It's the kind you'd only ever see in a schoolboys league.

    Or Darron Gibson...

Also I always forget Chiellini when we go over top CB's.

Gibson's record is ridiculous. I had a real bad feeling when I noticed him in the starting line-up against United. Fergie should have put a clause in the deal with Everton that Gibson would never play against United.

To be fair though he has only played the odd few games. Pirlo has only missed one game all season I think.

Also I didn't know Pirlo was only 32. I thought he was way older than that. It seems like he's been around for ages.

Yeah I rate Chiellini very highly alright!

They'll be tough to break down the Italians. Jon Walters is the man ;)

I wouldn't say it's a decline. There are less "names", but the defence and midfield are very good. Juve have set the record for least goals conceded in a 38-game Serie A season this season.

Buffon, Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini, Pirlo, Marchisio, Pepe, Quagliarella and Matri will be in the squad I would say. I can see Italy being a shambles though.

To those saying Chiellini is quality, you're right but Barzagli has been Juve's best centre half this season. He and Pirlo are their two players of the year IMO.

Yeah tbh I'm basing it by looking at the 11 on paper. Have seen very little of this Juve team play. Tbf I didn't think they'd win as soon after that debacle.

Aye hopefully, think bringing Balo would be a mistake and they have been awful since euro 08 I feel

Completely off-topic here, but I think Italy will beat Spain in their World Cup opener.

(slightly more on-topic) Having the spine of a team who are on a high morally and should be in relatively good shape physically (no European football for Juve this year) can be a big factor in these tournaments.

A lot of the Spain squad meanwhile have played a ridiculous amount of football over the past few seasons, and I just wonder if their motivation will be as strong as before, especially for some of the Barca players.

Whilst this is a great day for Juve it's an even more important day for me personally because now my favourite mug is finally correct again.

You see, shortly after Juve won their 28th Scudetto a friend brought me back an official Juve mug from Turin with "28 Campioni D'Italia" printed on it. Unfortunately as things turned out Juve were stripped of that title and relegated. So for the past 6 years my mug has said "28 Campioni D'Italia" when in reality Juve only had 27 titles.

Finally my mug is accurate again!

    Juventus President Andrea Agnelli:

“This is our thirtieth title achieved on the pitch, and nobody will take them away from us. Moreover, if I consider the ongoing law proceedings in Naples, the 2004/05 championship wasn’t deemed as altered, while the 2005/06 season wasn’t even investigated. Juventus continue to battle to reach treatment equality, under several aspects: sport justice, ordinary justice and our life. Treatment equality is a fundamental topic for us. The three stars on our chest? Our fans will enjoy nice surprises.”
