I've to replace the glass on a passenger door mirror as it's cracked, looking on Ebay there's 2 different kinds, either flat or convex, it seems convex is the norm, is that correct?

I would have thought flat would be OK/norm for near side (passenger); convex for off side (for blind spot)?

Yes, you should go with the convex mirror.

Your driver side mirror is planar - it is so close to you that it is essentially as if you looked over your shoulder.

Likewise for the rear view mirror.

The passenger mirror is far enough that if it were planar, you would not have much of a field of view.

Thus, you must compress the image, always be upright, and never have it disappear -which cannot be done with a concave.

Final note: the convex mirror compresses the image - makes things look smaller. Your brain interprets this as being far away, which could lead to an accident. Cue the lawyers - Objects in mirror are closer than they appear.

    ;)
