Bibshorts for long cycles

Have a few pairs of bib shorts that do me fine on 60k spins but anything over that I start to feel the pain...

Will be doing a few consecutive 100k plus cycles soon so need some shorts that will help make the experience that little bit more comfortable and manageable.

Am thinking of the Castelli Aero Free Shorts. 2011 kit going for 115e in my size. Anything else I should be considering around that price range. DHB Pro shorts were looked at but there's been a few negative comments about 5+hrs spent in the saddle being an issue.

    Thanks.

I would consider changing the saddle before spending 100+ euros on shorts.

+1 on a good saddle and maybe some chamois cream, 7hrs in the saddle on Sat and my ass was probably one of the few parts of my body that wasn't sore at the end of it. Having tried a few saddles, I find Brooks B17 works well for me but ymmv.

Saddle is fine without padding for 20k spins so don't think that's causing much of an issue although I'm open to correction.

The current shorts I own all have pretty thin padding so would assume that they're the cause of the problem, again, open to correction on that.

I can go for hours on a leather saddle. I borrowed my friends Fuji Tour for a week last summer with a Brooks B17 and never had the problem of painful behind. Did the 100km from dublin to athlone (and onwards to galway the next day..) and was able to get back on the bike the next day.

For what its worth, I was in the most basic aldi 13.99 shorts. So its a wonder what a decent saddle can do.

I might be in the same boat, although I noticed a big difference between two different bib shorts. But if you change saddle how are you suppose to pick the right one for you , when it's only over 50k that you begin to notice the pain?

Good question. I am sorta lucky that I had the use of another bicycle with another saddle which suited my needs perfectly. An extended test drive.

Perhaps borrow one off a friend that he says is comfy? Or have a quick test drive of one from a shop. With me, I was very quick to realise the comforts of a leather saddle.

From my googling and you tubing over the last hour or so that what I am getting, an instinctive response to the right one or an 'aahhhh' moment

Not sure that there's a good answer to that one. I've had three saddles I didn't much like before getting one that worked, some of which have been donated to mates going through the same ballache. If I was starting again I'd be looking at Brooks, Charge spoon and Fizik in that order. See what you can borrow I guess, not sure if any of the shops have loaners. Maybe you should start a boards.ie saddle loan/exchange group.

I like Santini bib shorts, Nalini are good also. Assos seem to be the best from all the reviews I have read but they are expensive.

yes hard to beat assos last for years but expensive.
but before you go splashing out on expensive shorts ask around has any of your mates got the fizix alainti saddle probably the best saddle you ass will sit on.
the brooks are brilliant saddles but to be honest there not going to suit you simply because they take breaking in and that could be anything from 500 to 1000 miles.
