    Train via Limerick or Kildare/Heuston.

    Bus via Limerick.

I'm not aware of any direct services.

Thanks, thats a pain though, 4 hours. Do you know if there are any companies besides Bus Eireann?

Not that I am aware of, unless you go via Dublin. I think GoBus might do Galway-Limerick.

    you got a driving licence?
A car can be hired for as little as a tenner a day outside of midsummer and christmas (and other) peak tourist times.

While Citylink do operate Galway/Limerick, Bus Eireann do offer the fastest journey time with the X51 service. Then it's the 55 onto Waterford.

    Through tickets available online.

The "best" way is the train to Dublin and then another down to W-ford.
2 hours for each journey on a comfy train rather than a crowded bus.

Not absolutely. Depending on time of day changing at Kildare or Limerick Junction is necessary to get there on time.

Galway is only separated from Waterford by one county...Tipperary.

Ironically, even though there is no direct transport link between Galway and Waterford, it was once possible to fly direct with Aer Arann in just half an hour.

Then the Celtic Tiger died and now you have to criss cross Ireland to skip one county.

You cant trust bus eireann times either. You'll be left an hour or 2 late.

Quickest and cheapest way for me was always bus to Limerick then train to Waterford. Cost about half what going via Dublin would. However I think CIE have copped on and changed their fare structure in the last year so maybe there isnt a saving anymore.

Not on Galway-Limerick. I've already told you that Bus Eireann route X51 is the fastest service.

Also if you use Citylink you will have to pay two separate fares.

    Train via Limerick

Just checked online for this day week.
Via Limerick 6 hours and €60 SINGLE! Talk about being bitch slapped!

Via Dublin 5 hours and €25 single, or 4.5 hours via Kildare for same price.

they have factored that into their printed timetables and the quoted connection is not the bus 10 min after you arrive in Limerick (making a presumtion you will be on time) but the one an hour later than that again - so Bus Eireann themselves presuming that the optimum connection is impossible to make.
