Bought this case in lidl today.

    Looks great... one problem its not Size: 55 x 36 x 20cm

Its Size: 55 x 36 x 23cm or is my measuring tape wrong.

And no I didn't expand it. Knowing ryanair they would probably stop me taking it as cabin luggage?

If it wouldn't fit in the Ryanair cages then you would be caught to check in bag, depending on airports you could be in trouble. A nasty surprise before getting on a flight!

I travel quite a bit on various airlines , Ryanair included , I bought a samsonite lite cabin bag and it's excellent because it weighs leas than 3 kg empty . What weight is the lidl bag? And what cost?

I will be using it in 2 weeks, I have kept the receipt and will return if they turn the bag away. Lidl are ok they usually give back money if the Item is not as per spec.. I really like the case, lets see how I get on.

I tried it last week on a Ryanair Dublin-Luton return flight.

I got away with it, but only because they didn't check the size. I tried it myself in one of the blue metal frames and it defo would not fit, so I imagine if they had gone around with the box that they drop over the cases I might have been in trouble.

Having said that there were plenty of other bags on the flight that were even worse.

It has to be 20cm 'deep' - no more! A lot of bags are advertised as cabin suitable when they are actually too large for Ryanair (and other airlines with the same 55x40x20cm limit). It includes wheels and handles also, so don't trust the dimensions written on a label either - bring a measuring tape with you before you buy a case!
