I went into my local Elverys today looking to invest in a new set of brogues - When asking for sizes/advice the salesperson mentioned that they had a sale on custom moulded insoles and that he would recommend them over buying a set of heavy cushioned runners and just buy a set of regular runners insert the insole and in the process save myself 50 euro!?
Does this make sense? Or was it just some guy tryna make a sale on a special offer??

Makes total sense, why would you buy a cushioned runner when you can have an insole

I think you mean the sales person was telling you a heavy support runner and not cushioned. The insoles are designed for support.
Elvery's seem to be pushing these insoles on every customer.

While there may potentially be some merit in going down the route of insert plus runners if you have a particular problem (and that's a matter for intense debate) there's little point in going with the Elverys offering as I understand it.

The best advice I can offer is to go to a specialist running shop ideally one that does video gait analysis. If you really do need inserts get them done by a professional who spent 4 years studying the area (podiatrist/orthotist) not from a sales guy who may have seen a video about them.
