Mod Note: I've merged the Christy Ring, Nicky Rackard and Lory Meagher Cup Threads together as I think this way they will get more attention and tender loving care!

Started up yesterday hear are the results

    Round 1
    Louth 1-8 Armagh 0-19
    Donegal 1-15 Roscommon 0-14

Round 2 is on Saturday May 12th. The fixtures are

    Armagh v Sligo
    Monaghan v Donegal

The way this should be done seeing as there is only 6 teams is to have 2 groups of 3 with the top 2 from each group to the SFs so then it takes 4 games to win the titl. This of course would not happen as the GAA what this finished and out of the way as fast as they can!

There was games today and yesterday in this. THe results were

    Yesterday

    Round 1

    Wicklow 2-20 Kerry 2-15
    Mayo 0-17 Down 0-19
    Derry 1-22 Kildare 2-18

    Round 1 Today

    Meath 4-08 London 3-10

Big shock Wicklow beating Kerry and with a bit the spare.

Again if the GAA actually cared about this and the teams in it they would let them into the qualifiers.
The Christy Ring finishes too early as it it. It would be just reward for winning the competition.
It would be the likes of Kerry, Down etc best chance to create an upset as they would have a nice bit of hurling played while the bigger counties would be just starting their campaigns, I think there would definitely be a few upsets. It would promote hurling even more in the said county.

Biggest margin of defeat 5 points...interesting. Who is favourite for the cup this year?

Good idea alright, letting the winner into the qualifiers.

Its a crying shame how the GAA have managed to downgrade the prestige of the Ring, Rackard (and latterly Meagher) Cups. When they originally started the idea from the Hurling Development Comittee was laudible - give players from the 'lesser' hurling counties a chance to play on the big stage and a big occasion. This worked well with the first couple of Ring/Rackard Cup finals played on All Ireland Quarter or Semi final day in Croke Park and live on TV as well. A few short years later and as the OP says the aim is to get these competitions out of the way as quickly as possible

Kerry were favs before the tournamnet started. I agree with the OP insofar as the GAA arent doing enough for the Ring Cup (see my post on the Rackard thread) however it should be remembered that after winning the Ring Cup Last year Kerry chose not to go into the McCarthy cup this year instead opting to continue developing with a view to re-entering Munster in 2013

What's the story with the format of it? From looking at last years competition, it seems that the 4 winners play off against each other as well as the 4 losers. The losers of the "winners" playoff then played against the winners of the "losers" playoff for a place in the semi finals against the two winners of the "winners" playoff.
    *Head explodes*
    Presume it's similar this year.

Delighted to see Armagh win, I know they are doing a lot of work up there to promote the game.

I agree, the way it has been downgraded is ridiculous, and very poor form by the GAA

Jaysus tough one for both Kerry and Kildare. Two decent teams but one of them will be in a relegation playoff. Hopefully we can get a result against Down as they seem to be having a pretty poor season so far.

The Tyrone game really shows the gulf in class even between Division 3A and 3B. Though good to see that Longford seem to have put their league woes behind them to field a slightly competitive side.

What has happened Kerry hurling in this years Christy Ring Cup? The crushed it last year but decided not to move up to the Liam McCarthy, instead wanting to continue to build at the lower level. Seem to have regressed a lot instead though

Backwards they have gone this year, its going to take a bit to come back from this years poor display in the Christy Ring,John Meyler was on Radio Kerry after the game and he questioned the teams hunger for this years competition.

John Meyler and his team have stepped down from the Kerry Hurling Job!
