With the stat flying around during the draft about players career length.

Would there be a space for division two of NFL.
Like the European league, but for guys on practice squads or players who turned out to be busts.

Someone like TO, McNabb, or LT not having a team in the current year and all wanting to play.

Huge amount of guys come out of college and never play football again because they didnt get a chance.

Would there be a place for such a thing with the Pros and huge following for the College scene.

to make this work you would need massive investment from the nfl and i mean massive given how hard both sides fought over an amount of money that was nothing in comparison last year i cant see this happening for the foreseeable future

The oringal thought came from watching the show "Friday Night Lights"

I couldnt beleive if they didnt get a scolarship to college then they wouldnt play football anymore.

I didnt know if this was the show or real life and it seems like it really is like this.

So im sure same thing applies for college football players.
Of course there is huge amount of free agents.
Cant remember the figure but think its 3 and half years playing career.

Over exaggeration on the shows part. D1, FCS(D1aa), D2 are the only one who offer scholarships. D1 the largest amount offered then it gets lower as you drop down through the FCS and DII. DIII schools cant offer scholarships. There is also Junior College footballor JUCO football for those who need to make up points or who are only after an associate degree. There is also a community college football conference. So after High school there is plenty of option to play football. Its after college that is the problem.

Can't see it happening, the quality would be worse and in turn would people really bother watching it/attending? Also hard to know when you to have it on, during nfl season college ball is played on friday and saturdays so I doubt they would want them both to clash as it would just make it harder for it to be a success.

Well clearly there is a window in the offseason for it to be on.

I just think its mental that only 32 teams for a country so huge.

Out of interest, what do those players who don't get drafted or picked up as an UDFA do? Do many of them pursue football still or just go into regular jobs?

College football is huge over there though. That's basically the NFL second division. Also a second division would just worsen the standard of the NFL.

Depends on the guy. I know guys who constantly try out for the Pros or AFL or CFL and they work bar jobs and jobs with lack of committment required and they spend their life working out and conditioning and when spring rolls around they attend the try outs. Some will hire sports agents and have the agency try get them try outs in the off season. Many will give up and realise they need money to survive.

    Interesting stuff, cheers TO.

I'd imagine the success rate of players getting took on after a year or two without getting picked up at all would be very, very low?

Must be very difficult for them to let go of their dream when football is all they've known since they were a kid.

A more extreme example of trying to tap into the American football market

XFL was hilarious. Anyone remember what they used instead of the coin toss:

    Brilliant!

But how much cooler would that have been had Defensive Tackles been the ones in scramble? Missed a trick there Vince!
