    Hi,

Wa about to get a Leap card.

Now I find that if I get a simple return ticket to Stephens green it is 7.5% cheaper than using the Leap card !

I thought the Leap card was supposed to save us something? or at least not COSTING us something ?

Interesting link. I think I may have gotten myself confused ....... :D

I travel from Ranelagh to Stephens green.

The single ticket is €2. The return ticket is €3.70, making each trip €1.85.

The single Leap trip according to the Leap web site is €1.45 but according to the above link it is €1.75 ?

(yes yes I know .... the Leap is cheaper .....:) )

€1.45 is for travel in one zone only! it is €1.75 on the green line to travel across two zones(€1.65 on red line)

    leap card fares

I just cannot fathom, without the aid of mind-altering substances, just WHY in a City of our size, the RPA were allowed to introduce Two different Fare Structures for lines within the same LRT system.....Just defies logic, belief and patience !!!

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

Two different social classes? very few on the red line pay for going a few stops and especially not after 5pm because it is regarded as a public amenity, on buses you must pay the driver or get off but on this you are not asked directly to pay, while most people on the green line would walk rather than use it without paying because they regard it as a service rather than an amenity!

Ah I thought it read as ... if you travel one zone .... but you say it is 'within' one zone ?

If you cross a zone boundary you are travelling two zones. The single zone fare applies to travel within a single zone.

Ranelagh to St Stephens Green is 2 zones.

If you are travelling every day a 30 day or 7 day ticket offer cheaper travel than either the leap or cash fares.

This must be one of the most inefficient system ever operated in his country.

They tell you on their web site that a credit card top up can take up to 48 hours to get to your card !

if you log into the card online, the balance is up to 48 hours out of date ....

    Reason ?
"...regarding the delay in your online travel history and balance. This is updated daily but can be up to 24 hours behind at any time. The files are sent from each transport operator each night and then updated."

The files are sent at the end of the day ??? So the web site is not connected at all with the LUAS ticketing system ?

    Duhhhh

Auto top-up is in early testing, which make credit card and cash top-ups less of an issue.
