Does anyone know are the "UCATT" union any good?

One of the lads I know is working the usual 40 hour week, but also is told to work a couple 18 hour shifts as well. A couple times a week, he only gets 4 hours sleep between the two shifts, but is afraid of speaking up about it as he thinks he'd get sacked if he refused. He has found out that the others he works with is in the UCATT union, and they don't have to do the insane hours he's made to do, so he's wondering are they any good, and how does he join them / get in contact with the rep for his company?

He should ask his colleagues who are already members of UCATT.
