My launch day 60gig is dead again jim.

I'm thinking of just picking up a brand new slim for the cheapest price possible.

    1. Can i get my game saves off my existing hard drive and my copy of prototype 2 out of the cd tray?
    2. Where's the cheapest place to buy a slim ps3, I don't want bundles or controllers at all.
    3. Or should i try get this fixed again if possible?

The cheapest ps3 i think is 160gb with fifa for 219 in hmv got from the games bargain tread.
If you have playstation plus all saves would be able to be redownload once you get the new ps3.
If you get it fixed use the backup or data transfer.
Sorry don't think you can transfer data on through old ps3 another way.

Dont think you can get your disc out unless you disassemble the whole PS3.I had to do it with mine a few weeks back. Its not too difficult.Theres plenty of tutorials on youtube.

to get the disc out, switch it off at the back, hold your finger on the eject button and flick the switch back on again, keep your finger on the eject butoon for 10 seconds or so, this starts the fan test and you should get your disc back

great news i got the disk out, i started it up again by just hitting the power button and it booted for about 3 minutes. not enough time for me to get my saves though :(.

might be paying to get it fixed to get the saves, i'm too far through too many games.

acutally here might be an idea, if i got a new ps3, and signed up for ps plus and if i got my 60gig to boot once more would the upload of saves take that long i'm guessing not that long but would need more than 20 minutes i'd say.

    balls it anyways

You can upload a max of 150mb save's content onto the server.

If you have an decent upload speed it shouldn't take to long!

How long will the console boot up for? If you can get it working for a half hour you could possibly have enough time to transfer your saves between the consoles using an ethernet cable.

You could try a DIY temp fix on your old PS3 just to get the transfer done.

I had the same thing happen to me last week, had it fixed for 68 euro by Bryan at consolepros.ie and now it's good as new.

went with consolerepairs.ie as they fixed my first YLOD, went back on saturday, said it would cost 25, and got a text saying it was ready for collection on monday evening. that's service, they were even surprised i got 14 months out of the first reflow.

transfered everything over to the new slim so the 60gb will be laid to rest :(, but now i can get on with prototype 2 :)

That seems like a very good price - I was led to believe it'd cost more in the region of €60. That's not bad at all.

Your not going to get any type of decent repair for 25 euro.

I used to do these types of repairs myself and for the work and time involved €25 wouldn't cover my costs or time.

For a ps3 €60 sounds about right for a proper reflow,
But if its been re-flowed once you may as well get it re-balled (€100) which is as close to a permanent repair as you can get (should at least outlast a new console)

Most computer repair shops and their "expert techs" from my experience are little more than idiots that do more damage than good.

If anyone gets a console repaired make sure the person has something called a BGA rework staion
And if the option is available get it re-balled.

Of the top of my head the only person I know of re-balling ps3 is consolepros.ie

As far as I know these lads do the YouTube repair that does more damage than good (I re-repaired quiet a few consoles they worked on)
Dont expect a long lasting repair.

They may have got the proper equipment since then but I doubt it since they were surprised you got 14 months out of a reflow which is the minimum I would expect a reflow done properly to last.

On the upside prototype 2 is the bomb :)
