Saalbach/Hinterglemm vs Mayrhofen

Before everybody leaves the winter forum for their summers holidays I thought I'd ask a question.
We're a group of 10-15 mainly intermediate boarders and a couple of skiers, although some years there would be 1-2 total noobs. Last couple of years we've been to mayrhofen and thoroughly enjoyed what it has to offer, from the slopes to the après.
I'm just looking at people's opinions regarding going to Saalbach or Hinterglemm next year. From what I have read, it seems to tick the same boxes as mayrhofen although it might be more expensively but has the benefit of skiing back to resort. Also if we stayed in Hinterglemm to reduce the costs are the two towns connected by bus at night? So to recap.

1-Is it much more expensive than Mayrhofen?
2-Are the two towns connected by bus at night?
3-Does Hinterglemm offer decent après at night?

I think I've covered everything, I look forward to your replys :)

Sallbach is maybe 5% more expensive overall from Mayrhofen, thats all in across beeer, food etc.

Skiing is quite similar but Saalbach has a bigger area linked. Although it has less fun off piste.

Hinterglemm is home to the Goatstall the equivalent of the ice bar. Not sure if there is a bus link but a Taxi is about €3-4 A head back to Saalbach at night with 3/4 in the cab.

I cannot answer any of your questions but if you want the craic in Saalbach, I wouldn’t stay in Hinterglemm. If you want to ski in the resort but don’t really care where you are – then yes. Hinterglemm is perfect. Anything other than ultimate convenience on a ski holiday really amounts to a lot of effort.

What kind of accommodation would you be looking for?

Are you saying that Hinterglemm is very dull at night time? We usually try and stay in 3* b&b hotels within say 400m of the main lifts. We're usually more into pubs than nightclubs, preferring to be home by midnight, although there are sometimes exceptions!!

AFAIK it’s mainly a family crowd. I think most of the craic is to be had in Saalbach for après and night time stuff. TBH we’ve never been to Hinterglemm in all the times we’ve been to Saalbach (other than to get the gondola back up!)

jvan; the best apres in the area is in Hinterglemn @ the Goatstall pub.

Although once that is done the area quietens down, there is more options in Saalbach itself but by your requirements below I thing it will be half a dozen of one versus the other.
