    Hi all,

i need some advice on what to buy.

I currently have a 99 E200 Merc, petrol and auto.

I have to get rid of it as the munt of petrol i use it crazy. Its using about €150 per week and im getting no more than 200 miles out of a tank.

I have a budget of between 7k-8k and would like something like another newer e class or my first option would be a 5 series 520 -525 but must be newer than the e39 model so 03 and up.

It must be a diesel and dont wana go over 2.5 litre as the tax will be way too much.

i know i could go for the likes of a prius but i want a nice car such as merc, bmw etc

any advice would be much appreciated

You can't infer 10 mpg from the OPs figures unless the op can confirm that one tank full is 150 Euro.
    EDIT
Just checked 65 litre tank ,so say 60 litres for 200 miles 15mpg .Still woeful! Would a service improve the mpg at a low cost?

How about a SAAB 9-3 TID? In my opinion its something a bit different from the almost default BMW/ Audi in that category, and a classy looking motor too.

I would think that the 150 bhp version is by no means a slouch. I'm not overly well up on them GM engines though so it might be a good idea to do a bit of research if you were to look out for one..

Pity the tax on a 3.0 litre merc or BMW is so high would love one of them

it's a pity the way tax depreciates a car.
