Cheap and Reliable....

    Looking for something that will be cheap and reliable on fuel/tax/insurance.. I will be driving up to 60 miles a day and was geared towards a commercial diesel or something like a Ford Ka:) any thoughts? price range 500-1500e

    Opel combo 1.7d would come to mind. Toyota corolla 1.3, K11 micra also.

    In that price range you need to judge each car on their own merrits regarding reliability rather than by going on reputation.

    BTW unless you have a VAT number you will probably be taxing the commerical privately.

    Ahh now that is exaggerating a bit.

    The Ka is a nice little car. Fair enough the rust protection wasn't the best on Fords of that era, but there is enough of them about to find a really good one. My sister got a 02 one for 1000 a couple of months ago.

    They are economical enough and like most small fords are good craic to drive. The old 1.3 is good enough in the Ka whereas its a bit underpowered in the fiesta. However, its been round so long that any problems were long ironed out and there is very few mechanics who don't know anything about them.

    My vote goes to

    Ka/Fiesta
    Clio
    Starlet 1.3
    Micra K11
    A looked after 106/saxo
