Early Superbowl betting

Just out of boredom, myself and a couple of the lads were discussing early value bets for the Superbowl XLVII.

Being biased, I like the Chargers at 20s following a good draft and FA, adding some playmakers in defense and depth to offense after VJax's departure.

Difficult to see Giants regaining title due to their tough schedule but can't understand Saints at same odds. Patriots will be in the hunt again after addressing some defensive needs.

Outside bets for me are Carolina at 33/1, Cinci at 40/1 and maybe Tampa if Freeman regains his form.

    6/1: Green Bay Packers
    7/1: New England Patriots
    12/1: Philadelphia Eagles; Houston Texans
    14/1: San Francisco 49ers
    16/1: Baltimore Ravens; Denver Broncos
18/1: Pittsburgh Steelers; New York Giants; New Orleans Saints
20/1: Dallas Cowboys; Detroit Lions; Atlanta Falcons; San Diego Chargers
    25/1: Chicago Bears
    28/1: New York Jets
    33/1: Carolina Panthers
    40/1: Cincinnati Bengals; Miami Dolphins
50/1: Kansas City Chiefs; Tampa Bay Buccaneers; Tennessee Titans; Seattle Seahawks
66/1: Arizona Cardinals; Washington Redskins; Oakland Raiders
80/1: St. Louis Rams; Indianapolis Colts; Buffalo Bills
    100/1: Minnesota Vikings
    150/1: Cleveland Browns; Jacksonville Jaguars

Great value for all teams at 18/1 and 20/1

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,710 ✭✭✭✭Paully D

If I was betting on a winner I'd go for New England at 7/1.

Outside bet would be the Bears at 25/1.

One I'd stay away from would be the Eagles at 12/1.

Like the look of the Bears at 25-1 IF they can protect Cutler. Could be last chance saloon for Urlacher n Briggs.

As an outside bet the Chiefs are a shout at 50-1. Loads of talent on both sides of the ball and Charles and Berry back fit. Hali is a talent at OLB. Not totally sold on their draft but could get good run for the price.

I'd almost consider the broncos for a laugh and packers to cover that bet ha

Steelers at 18/1 is a good bet for me.

The Lions are currently 25/1 in Ladbrokes. Fantastic value.

I like the Chiefs as an outside bet they're 66/1 at Coral and Skybet and Coral.

Make sure you shop around, Steelers are 22/1 with Bodog while being anything from 14-18/1 generally.

The Cowgirls are 30/1 with Powers while being 22-25/1 across the rest of the board.

    Shop around guys!

The Packers and Patriots were awesome on offense last season. They both had huge holes in their defense, I think were among the three worst teams on passing D?

Anyways they both used the draft to try and fix those problems which is a good long term plan but doesn't always work out in the short term.

For me the 49ers are the best value there. They added Mario Manningham in free agency and AJ Jenkins in the draft to their wide receivers which was a huge hole in their roster last year. They've still got Crabtree who might flourish with less attention and the mercurial Randy Moss with his great hands could also have an impact. Their defense is probably the best in the league and that offense with Alex Smith finally going to start for a second year in a row with the same head coach could improve significantly.

I think, just like the Cowboys game last year, week 17 in the MetLife will be huge.

And we beat you in Phili last year. Did you get knocked out like Vick that day too?! :D

You did beat us twice in 2010 though.

Yeah it'll be very tough. Cowboys have definitely improved all right.

All this talking is making me lose my patience.

Has anyone come across any prices for winning the division? Mike Mayock reckons the Bucs could surprise both the Saints & Falcons in that division with what they have added in the draft and FA. If they are 50/1 to win it all they should be a decent enough price to win that division

Baltimore have been SERIOUSLY unlucky the last few years and have got closer and closer, them at 16s is a good shout imo, they'll get it done before too long and i think this might be the year.

We're 16s too but i think 2013 is when we make our big splash with Manning, not this year. Still a bit of work needed.

Detroit at 25s are fantastic value mind, as is Pittsburgh at 18, given that they seem to be in the SB every other year. Houston at 12s is good too.

I cannot see how GB can be justified as favourites considering how they trailed off last season (performance wise).

There is a lot of work to do on their defense and rush offense for them to even make it out of the NFC North.

Giants / Lions could offer good value I reckon.

A 15-1 regular season would make them favourites easily as their only losses were to the sb champs

the suggs loss is huge for them given how defence orientated they are losing a suggs reed or lewis is almost like loseing a qb

gb where the best team last year just came up against the wrong team on the wrong day in the playoffs 15-1 and keeping your team makes you instant favs in my opinion

giants you never know if they make the playoffs you cant rule them out

i like the lions but they need 1 or 2 players on d

  • btw my moneys on the dolphins for the first draft pick

I'd be looking at the Pats, 49ers or Bears at those prices.

Always handy to have a look at the schedule for the first 3-4 games and see how tough it might be. Could always find a side that gets off to a bad start but finishes with an easier schedule at a bigger price than pre-season.

I think the Dolphins have far too much pride to be picking number one.

I think GB are justified favourites, they had no luck against the Giants in the playoffs and really scored at ease for most of last year. As for the Ravens, I don't think the Suggs loss will hurt us that much, despite him being the best defender in the league we still have the awesome Haloti Ngata as well as Ed Reed and Ray Lewis. All it means is a little bit more pressure is on Flacco to score. Despite the fact that this year Suggs was DPOTY and he wasn't last year I think it would've been a bigger loss if he went down last offseason. We used to be a one man pass rush with Suggs. We now have plenty of pass-rushing options. Hopefully Paul Kruger or some impressive free agent shows up. We had a CB gem last year in Cary Williams signed off the Texans practise squad to start 16 games.

Looking at Chefs at 50/1, I think they may be worth an each way bet.

From the looks of it we've really improved our D and on the offence isn't too bad either if we can keep Charles and Hillis fit.

    C'mon the Chefs:D

Well his a middle of the road QB(Around the same level as Romo in my book, so overrated is the that Cowboy) to be honest, but I really trust us to be good on the defensive side and with our 2 headed monster in the backfield I'd be confident of us being a lot better than last season. Of course we need to stay injury free, last season was a joke in that regard. At one stage, Cassell, Charles, Moeaki were all out:(

My money's on Houston. A piss-easy division will have them in the playoffs regardless. I reckon they'd have won it last year had Schaub been fit and Andre been 100%. One of the more complete teams in the NFL.

With Mario Williams gone to Bills, does that not make their D weaker than last year?

I think they've got plenty of pass rushing talent remaining. JJ Watt, Brooks Reed and now Whitney Mercilus and Jared Crick. Still one of the best defences in the NFL with Wade Phillips at the helm, I wouldn't worry about Williams' loss too much myself. As a Pats fan, they're definitely the team to beat imo.

I don't know, they will have an awfully tough time if they run into Baltimore (who they lost to fairly comfortably with Schaub), NE or Denver. Denver are my third favourite, behind the Packers and the Pats. I think that their defense will give up more points next year but it will be more than made up for by Manning.

Last years the NFC was stacked with a ton of amazing teams, this year it's the AFC's turn. Baltimore, Houston, NE, Denver and Pittsburgh all looking very strong.

i think ryans is a bigger loss than williams not as good a player but he was there leader

But here's the thing, they're not awful either. They're not good, but not awful. Above average RB in Reggie Bush, WR corps admittedly lacking, rookie QB shouldn't be as bad as Painter anyway, and the defense is not a bad unit. It also helps that they play the NFC West and AFC South. It's hard to single out a team to be the worst. I think The Jaguars, Browns or Raiders could pick number one. The Vikings are a candidate if Ponder sucks, but I believe in him.

Not to forget Eric Berry who is one of the best young DB's in the league imo

I'd be surprised if Tannehill was able to beat Matt Moore out of the starting job. Moore is a decent qb

I agree it could be the Raiders. Lost alot of talent in the offseason as cap casualties and didnt get topick in the draft until bottom of the 3rd. When McFadden goes down they are doomed

May just bring them into one tough unit! I know its unlikely but at those odds surely worth something.
