Hi! I'm very interested in enlisting in the RDF and am wondering if anyone knows which (if any) units in Dublin are recruiting? My preference would be the 62 Reserve Medical Company but I'd be happy to join any unit.

Also, I'm 34 years of age (35 on the 19th July) so between security clearance etc I'm really hoping I can make it in time!? I'll be gutted if I miss the opportunity..

    Advice appreciated tks : )

You're okay age-wise, as you must "be not less than 17 years and not more than 35 years of age". Still, I'd get the paperwork in now, as it's not inconceivable that you could be waiting more than 14 months for attestation these days.

I think you've missed the boat for recruitment this side of 2012, most units will have taken in their approved intake of recruits by now, and with recruit camp starting in less than 2 months, it wouldn't leave enough time to get your security clearance back in time to be sworn in, not to mention complete the training required to go on recruit camp.

Best thing you can do is find your local unit or preferred unit, find out when they train and go down and say you want to join. And if you're told they're not recruiting, just try again later in the year. Like Donny5 says though, you could be waiting over a year to be sworn in.

I'm heading to St. Bricins next tuesday for the parade night and to hand in my birth cert, passport photos etc. I'm not sure if the Reserve Medical Company is recruiting but I thought I'd go out anyway have a chat with them n see what the story is. If I apply while I'm under 35 does that mean I can join if I end up being over 35 by the time the application process is completed??

As long as you're under 35 when you join, you'll be fine.

If you want to maximise your chances of getting into the RDF, try one of the infantry or artillery companies. The training with them will also be a lot more intense than the medical corps.

No, the rule applies to the date of attestation, which is when you take the oath.

Thanks Turbine, I'll try the infantry and artillery companies aswell. Do you think its possible I could get into a unit in 2.5 months?

Not all. We have four places left to be filled - anyone who wants to know where, PM me.

You could also try the NSR in Cathal Brugha, there is no annual camp as such so recruits are taken in at various different times throughout the year. No idea what the waiting list is like.

NSR are recruiting at the moment, good unit in Dublin, strongest unit in thr NSR at the moment, good officers and NCOs. I am not in the unit:D.
With the future cut backs in the reserve you might be better in the NSR as the future does not look to good for the Army Reserve.

    Hi

In a word yes. In fact you would be very welcome there is a concern that the current recruit profile is too biased towards third level qualifications.

One of the hidden strengths of the Army Reserve is that we have our own carpenters, mechanics, metalworkers, builders, electricians, painters ......

    The more the merrier

If you are talking about an apprenticeship in the DF, then no. Apprentices in the DF are part of the PDF - there are no apprenticeships available through the RDF. Not even sure if they even do apprenticeships in the PDF anymore.

If the apprenticeship is outside the Army, then no problem.
