Hiring a model.

So I'm an amateur photographer looking to hire a model for some test shots and try some new ideas. I've been using Model Mayhem for a while now, but its mostly amateur models that's on that. I'm looking for an experienced model that can really benefit my portfolio.

Most modelling agencies I've contacted haven't replied and the couple that have insist on seeing my work. Basically if my work is good enough they'll let me use one of their models. But if I'm paying for the model why would it matter how good my work is? I'm just wondering if anyone has used models from agenices? What's the best way to go about it?

I'd imagine they'd be concerned about their models being shot by people who don't know what they're doing and then putting these images online - it could damage the image of that model.

I say stick with Model Mayhem. You can alter your search terms so you only see models with lots of experience - and sure there's some on there who only work for payment, anyway.

Truth be told though, there's some great models out there working for free, who just need the right advice and opportunities to go the distance!

Yeah that's a fair point. I never looked at it that way. Yes I've met some stunning amateur models on Model Mayhem that could easily have been pros. Although I did meet one girl on Model Mayhem who was represented by an agency and she had no problem working with me. She didn't even charge me. And it was a glamour shoot too. I found that strange.

Far from it. I've met plenty of amateur models that were stunning. Young ones taking pictures of themselves in front of mirrors doesn't count for model material.
