    Hi,

I currently have two cars '06 Merc CL500 and an '05 Range Rover Vogue.
I have been alternating between the two cars over the last few months. My wife passed away a while ago so I have finally decided to replace the two cars with just one.

Tried a Maserati quattroporte but found it a little uncomfortable and disappointing in terms of interior and really horrible gearbox.

Only things I really require are 4 seats and an automatic gearbox, running costs are not an issue i only do about 6-7k km a year

    Any suggestions?

I spent sometime this morning out car hunting! A day of contrasts to say the least.

As I'm totally open to what to get out of curiosity I decided to have a look at an EV. So brought a Nissan Leaf out for a spin.

Its actually not a bad car, eerily silent and pretty comfortable (except for a wedge of pointy plastic that has blanked buttons on it that hits your shin. Impressed by its size. But turning on the aircon saw a dramatic drop in range 87km to 70km the moment it was switched on. I like the idea and the silence but, I think I'd wait until they become more mainstream.

The second car I looked at was a Bentley Continental coupe serious value for money now considering original prices. But it is very tight inside, i'm 6'5 and felt really cramped and the back seat is practically useless.
Fantastic power, wonderful burble from the engine and finished very well.
But I was really disappointed by the interior space.
The CL is a much more comfy place to be and if your children have legs.

I really like the look of the new M5 and will try to get a test in one next week. It seems a practical choice. Either this or the BMW 6 series gran coupe, has anyone seen one of these?

Thanks for all the suggestions so far :)

Out of the 2, which car did your wife drive?
I think you'll find it hard to sell that one due to personal reasons.

But i would second or third or fourth the M5 option.

What would your likely budget be?
The best e60 M5 to hit the second hand market in a long long time is currently for sale out in howth nut its advertised at 54k

In Beshoff Motors, for some reason my posts wont post with a carzone link added?

up to 50-60K plus the two I already have.

My CL has 30K miles on the clock and the range rover has 101k miles.

Oh it has to be an M5 with that budget....

I started a thread on the 6 series saloon (as I called it) earlier in the week. I thought it looked very underwhelming.

I too am 6'5"; make sure you get comfortable with getting in and out of a 5 series befoere you buy one, I found getting in and out of the drivers seat a right pain in the arse - the entry door's not that generous. I too a full fat Range Rover (4.2 Supercharged) but also drive a Mini Cooper S which is very easy in and out. Shorter people won't understand ths problem but I found the 5er tight. Moving from a CL too will only compound that feeling.

    911!

Marcusm is right, being tall certainly makes it harder to find a comfortable car.

I'm going to take a look at this Saloon version of the Bentley Continental

maybe it might be more comfortable than the coupe.

Actually I would go for a supercharged Range Rover fullbody in a heart beat.
Can't seem to find any in Ireland heres a 5L V8 one in the UK http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201217467072435/ VRT might bring up the price a fair bit though.

Slightly off-topic but whilst on carzone I see the landrover section spammed by these ONYX modification guys, they just seem to utterly ruin beautiful cars.

    Porche maybe but not the 911 on this occasion;

    http://beta.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/porsche/panamera/panamera-4-8-turbo--very-high-specification/410650

Some people hate them but I think they look the dogs. If you're considering a Quatroporte then you have to consider the daddy of performance saloons.

Yeah they CHAV up perfectly nice cars for footballers and lotto winners. You know what they say about money not being able to buy class:rolleyes:

Suggest you replace those two cars, with two cars: a local runaround like a nissan leaf / fiat 500 / yeti, and for the Big Dog, an M5 or a 535d (with remap to suit).

I know 2 people with Flying Spurs; one has a chauffeur (and coincidentally is an idiot) and the other loves driving it and a 1959 Mini ad a late 60s Lamborghini.

Even in the UK, s/C RRs are becoming ess popular (and dropping in rice versus diesel). With a new model here shortly, you'll see prices drop even more. I wouldn't buy the one o you've cited as I hate back/black (even more with the white stitching). Look on fullfatrr.com for some enthusiasts. I perfectly understand the desire here for m5s but cannot understand, given our current cars, how that's likely to be a good replacement. In your position, I'd rob ably keep one of the existing ones and buy a small fun run around.
