    Max you'll love this!

Repost of the one in the games forum in case we don't have many lurkers there.

This game has totally come out of the blue for me. Very much in the Master of Orion mold and in the current market that's a niche that has yet to be filled after the disaster that was Sword of the Stars 2.

Anyway the game is in Alpha though it hardly feels like it, plays better then SotS2 ever/will play and it has some gorgeous music to it. Fully recommend it to anyone looking for a turn based 4X game who have found memories of Gal Civ/SotS/MoO

I actually didn't know this was supposed to be a turn based game I thought it was to play more like sins of a solar empire, shame I would have liked it more. But overall the graphics and music are a great bonus to the game.

The battles are card based ?

Took the plunge myself and it's pretty much what MoO 3 should have been, it does feel a bit characterless but is very very addictive if you like this sort of game. Good interface (often a downfall in these things) and a really nice ambient soundtrack even :)

Yes you could describe the battles as 'card based', you have no direct control of the battle so your fleet runs into theirs, and you pick one card for each phase of the battle (3 or 4 total), they do likewise and the battle is resolved. The cards just do things like grant bonuses to certain types of weapons, or reduce their shields etc. so you just pick based on what you have researched and where you/the opponent are weak or strong in ship design.

the battle system actually sounds quite cool and different

    Is it worth 30 euro?

Well, if you liked MoO/MoO2/Gal Civ II etc., I would say so - it's basically an updated version of these with a decent interface etc. Can't say too much about the AI yet as it tends to start you and any AIs far apart in the map types I've tried so far but I certainly haven't seen any blunders from it.

There are some nice ideas in it like the Cold War that exists when you first meet an AI civ: you are not officially at war when you meet them, but neither are you at peace, so you can attack (and be attacked) in systems that are not officially owned by either side, without causing all out war.

It was patched again today and it looks like it will updated for a while yet, so I would say yes, it's probably worth a punt if you like the genre.
