Anyone heard any rumours/speculation of such an event being in the works?

Anyone who went to the live event at the O2 last autumn for Ireland's rugby world cup game against Australia will know that it was a great event, with a great atmosphere, and really well put together with Horgan & Nacewa amongst the presenters, prize giveaways and free merchandise (that i managed to miss  ).

So I was thinking it would be great if they did a similar event for the Euros. It was free last time, but I doubt that would happen again. I think the main reason it was free was that it was on so early in the morning due to the time difference. They opened the bars at half time (about 1030), but as the Euro games are on in the evening that wouldnt be an issue, and they could make money on the event from the alcohol/food sales.

One hurdle could be the fact that Ireland are sponsored by 3, whilst obviously O2 sponsor the Point. But you'd hope for a big event like this they could work together for the benefit of the fans (and their balance sheets). Would be good PR for everyone involved as well.

I sent an email to the FAI and The O2 to ask about it. Hopefully they send a reply

Think you answered your own question there.

The IRFU are sponsored by O2, if the O2 really wanted to screen matches at the venue they'ed make a decent enugh return but I'd imagine most fans will rather be in a bar or at home with a BBQ rather then a place that serves fairly shite pints at crazy prices.

I know I'd rather be in a pub or beer garden then stuck in the O2 but each to there own.

Was in Berlin for the last world cup and seen the quarters against England in the O2 there and was great craic. Good substitute for anyone not heading over alright, really well run too, though I'd imagine they'd probably charge for it in Ireland

I know the Helix are using the Mahoney Hall to show all the games. Full bar. Not quite the o2 but still something.

Apparently there's a big screen event on at Tallaght stadium

Not sure I'd want to go there for it to be honest :D
Also charging €16.50 for the privilege for one game, or €45 for all three :-/

The state of the pints in the O2 alone would put me off

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

I dunno if the Irish sporting public could handle going to a stadium to watch a football game, even if it is on a screen.

Those prices are extortionate by the way.
