I am buying a domain name from a guy and he has suggested using ecop.com for the transfer and payment. They are an escrow service.

    Is this company/site reputable?
If not, can you suggest an alternative.

It looks like a legit but small scale, one person operation started last year.
So for a small sum they're probably OK.

    Alternatives include
    https://www.escrow.com/solutions/domain_name/process.asp
    who charge about $50 minimum.

    Looking at just under $700.
Would cost $25 at escrow.com (with a possible $25 for international wire transfer fee - though credit card or PayPal might be accepted).
    $14 with ecop.com.

Looks fine from a few checks I did. English isn't great, but it is french-based which explains that.
