Hi just wondering if anyone can come up with any ideas for a cheap powerful car. Was thinking maybe 2litre twin turbos like a Subaru Legacy.
Dont really want to spend over the 2grand mark as its only for a bit of fun to replace my old Legnum vr4 which was stolen some months back.
    Any ideas greatly appreciated!

300zx, Toyota soarer, these go for little money and would be better fun than a VR4 or legacy being RWD

If you looking for fun, then find a clean mx5. Not as fast as vr4, but a lot of fun. Won't break your piggy bank too.

As an owner, what about a Mk2 Toyota MR2. Plenty of good examples out there.

May be a bit of a curveball suggestion:
    Volvo s60 T5, 260bhp, €1,950

Actually the more i have been thinking about it the MX5 sounds like fun and i have also never owned a convertible. Never driven one so gonna go look at some next weekend.
Is there much room to play with the power in the engine?

the 1.8 is more then enough. It's 140hp in 1 ton car, so it is more then enough for fun. Most fun will be had in country roads not in motorway. Though some people will tell you that 1.4 corralla engine is better for it. So you can do a conversion...

Best things you can do for n/a mx5: manifold and exhaust system. Stock manifold is horrible by design, so 4-2-1 manifold will do a huge difference.. Don't bother with air filters as it will make it worse. Again quite a stupid design flaw, due to engine grind taken out of 323 turbo. It is under different angle in 323, so in Mazda exhaust and intake is on same side. So all hot air is being cought by air filter. Unless you are handy you can relocate air filter to other side and make it way better. You will need to extend afm wires and do some minor moding.
It's easy to live as long as you know it's a 2 seater. Our mx5 is used daily and newer had any trouble. At one stage it was the only car in family s all shoping was done with it too. It is in use all year. Soft top all winter long. Trust me, heaters in mx5 are freaking good. It's like furnace if you need it.
I am huge bastard too, 115kg. I fit in perfectly ;)

Have a test drive with one and I bet you will fall in love with it.

if you do want to look in to more in to mx5 world, then join mx5ireland. theres good few lads/ladies there, who can give you even more info. some of the lads got their mx5 turbo'd too, which is not that uncommon when you talk about mx5. when they were making mx5, they took out 323 turbo engine, took off turbo and droped it in to mx5. so like i said - it has it flaws, but it has its advantages too. one of them is being able to go under forced induction on stock internals up to 200 whp safe setup. there are bolt on kits out there, it is very very popular in UK and US, unfortunately it is not as popular here.

Mr2 is a lovely car too, its a poors man ferrari :D. in a good way! I drove it once, and i LOVED the seating position in it. you really feel like sitting in sports car. having engine few inches behind your head is cool and scary at the same time :D.
