First Class all the way well done to the WMC/IFMA for a great Event in Iran, it was very well organized and very professionally run, with event like these it is really drive Muaythai to the Olympics stage.
Stephan Hodgers was draw against Finland in his first match of the event, it was a very a closely fought contest but Stephan lost on points to the finish fighter, the Finland fighter went on to fight 4 more times in the event over the course of the week to the finals where he meet Iran fighter in a very close final, but got beaten in the Final Iran took Gold and Finland Silver so at least Stephan went out of the Tournament to the over all finalist.

Stephan had another Chance to fight again later in the week in a super fight Pro Contest against the Iran pro Champion this was another hard fought battle with both fighters given it all, when out of the Blue the Iran Champion threw a massive strong Kick to the Head which Caught Stephan unaware to drop him for the TKO round 3
Tuff to take for Stephan as the fight was really shaping up to be a good battle up to that point, Stephan will just dust off the lost and get back in the ring again real soon
Next Stop Bangkok for 3 months to prepare for Stephens 8 man tournament in England where he will be fighting in September, Watch out for Stephan next fights in Ireland in October in Cork and November in Dublin of this Year

    SjP.

Some Video to the Build up of the Big Fight!! Best of luck to Stephen.. He went back out to Thailand after a wee break at home at Christmas to train hard for the fight. Took his younger Brother with him Karl who also got signed up as a Pro Fighter by Windy Sports. Karl won his first Belt already out there! Another animal :D ...

Unfortunately this didn't go ahead. Saenchai wasn't allowed to compete by officials for some reason. He was replaced by Jak 300, won by decision.

tdavfc, do you know what the issue was with Saenchai?
Is there any talk of rescheduling it?

I'd be interested to know this as well.

    Statement from the organisers was...

"It is with great regret that I announce that Saenchai has not met the necessary criteria as required by the Western Australia Combat Sports Commission to compete in the bout between Saenchai vs Hodgers Saturday March 8."

If it was simply an injury or not making the weight you'd imagine they would just have said that instead of being so cryptic, and he made it there so it wasn't a visa issue. I'd guess either a purse issue or he failed the medical.

Real shame either way, would have been great for Stephen to have a crack at Seanchai.

It was announced a few days before the weigh-in afaik. Not sure when the medical was though.

Could of still been a visa issue, he'd only need a holiday visa to visit as a spectator. But he'd probably need a work/sports visa to compete where there is a purse on offer.
